I've been following the mass program for the last 3 weeks now, and for the first time in 3 years i have actually seen a gain in size on my arms (1/2 in 3 weeks), and i attribute it all mostly to diet. However, i have also seen a half inch gain on my waist. Is this too much of a fat gain in 3 weeks on a mass plan? i am taking creatine, as well, i don't know if the water retention matters.

The mass you put on should be muscle not fat. Only you know that. If the 1/2 inch at the waist is fat, than cut back on your calories. Three weeks to me is too fast for muscle.

but if you are on a mass building plan shouldnt you gain fat as well as the muscle, and then cut the fat in your cutting cycle?

i know that the 1/2 inch on my waist is fat, i was just curious as to if that seems like too much fat, too soon, because being on a mass program i do intend to gain some fat. In the last 3 weeks i have put on about 8 pounds.

True, but still try to limit unwanted fat. Eating as clean as possible will do this, help keep fat gain to a minimum.
