My question is this...Is there any plans to add a custom food list to the nutrition tracker? At the moment I'm using the carb/prt/fat supp to input food items that I need to customize, which works but is kind of a PITA. It would be great to be able to enter the c/p/f and then give it meal name for future use.
Other than this, the tracker is great..what an eye opener. I've been averaging 1200cal/day (too low) with 140 protien(OK), 120 carbs (low) and 25-30 fat (high). And I thought I was eating too much. Guess I'll try adding whole wheat pasta/brown rice to the menus. Any other suggestions for great sources of carbs without the fat? Thnx! |

There are tons of great sources of carbs without fat.
COMPLEX CARBS Oatmeal (Old Fashioned or Quick Oats) Sweet Potatoes Yams Beans (pinto, black, kidney) Oat Bran Cereal Rye Cereal Brown Rice Farina (Cream of Wheat) Multigrain Hot Cereal Whole wheat or Spinach Pasta Rice (white, jasmine, basmati, Arborio, wild) Potatoes (red, baking, new) FIBROUS CARBS Green Leafy Lettuce (Green Leaf, Red, Leaf, Romaine) Broccoli Asparagus String Beans Spinach Bell Peppers Brussels Sprouts Cauliflower Cabbage Celery Cucumber Eggplant Green or Red Pepper Onions Pumpkin Garlic Tomatoes Zucchini All of these are taken directly from the Healthy Eating Grocery List sticky. |

Borpillicus, I agree that these are great sources of carbs and I've referred to this list often. It would be cool to have the general carb content for each item just to put it in perspective, although I've looked up many of them and recorded along with the list.
What I find challenging is getting my numbers up to 300g/day. I do eat lot's of veggies, but they really don't pack that many carb (ave 10 carbs/cup). And I probably don't track the veggies in the nutritional tracker as closely because it's sometimes hard to estimate amounts, so maybe I'm getting more than I think. I think what I'm missing is the complex carbs namely pasta, rice and oatmeal. Even with these, I need to eat about a 2 cup serving just to get to 100 and it's hard to imagine eating this more than 1X / day(e.g. 1serv. of oatmeal is only 20g carbs) . I think this is a common problem for a lot of people and we can blame the low carb mentallity for much of this since many of us have removed many carbs from our diets-both simple and complex. Anyhoo....thanks for the list, it is always a good reminder:) I'm going to make a batch of rice and pasta tonight to keep handy to add to my meals. Hmmm, a mix of rice and black beans would be good! Think I'll pick up a yam as well! At least you got me thinking more creatively!! Thnx! |

I eat yams all the time. I like to dice them up, nuke them for a minute and add cinnamon. Very tasty.

flyonthewall - I think you can add your own custom foods as Pro member.
Otherwise we're stuck tryingto find the closest options available. E. |

Erika, are you sure about that. If Pro member has this option, I may just have to lay out the money, it would be worth it. I probably should pay anyway just to support the site, it certainly is worth it:big_smile:
Anyone else know for sure if FT-Pro has a customizable nutrition tracker? |

I thought I had seen that you could add your own foods with the PRO upgrade. If you do the tour it does say that you can add your own foods. Thats just one of the reasons I am going to be upgrading. Leslie |

Well I finally took the plunge and went for FTPro. Easiest way to become a professional:big_smile:
Thought Erika and Leslie may be interested to know that the nutrition tracker is indeed customizable and works pretty good. Everything is on one page so you don't have to keep going back and forth. In order to make a custom item, let's say chili for example, you'd have to know the total calories/fat/protien/carb. You can't just select each item and then group them under the name "chili"-as I hoped. What I did was select each item in my daily meal plan and in the end manually added up all the chili items and then created the customized chili meal (hmmm, confused yet....?) If I figured it out any one can! Bottom line is...it's much better that the free version and yippy no "Muscle&sex" popups (my boss was beginning to wonder!) The overall layout is much nicer too. |

Thanks Charlie...I did upgrade and am very happy I did. I did figure out how to customize the nutr. tracker and it works great!:) Also, I was worried 'bout loosing the info already in my tracker, but it was all still there after the upgrade. Just lost a couple of meals I had input, but no biggy! I'll have to make a fresh post so I can see "...ft professional" after my name...makes me feel sooo important!
