This is a question I have been wondering for some time now. What should you do if one of your arms is bigger than the other. Others say it is not significant enough to be noticed, but it is definately significant enough to disturb me. I do know that your dominant arm will naturally be bigger than the other because you use it more, but I do not notice this problem with the majority of the people I see. I work in a gym so I see a lot of people and I never see this problem in anyone else. So, what would your advice be to do to get the other arm to catch up I guess you could say? I was thinking of working out each body part once a week and work the smaller arm out twice, but I'm not sure how well that would go over. SO if you don't mind please post your opinions/advice, it would be much appreciated.

I got the same problem....this happens mostly because of your dominant arm dominating in triceps/chest exercises....since triceps are 2/3 of your arm this is where msot of the problem is.....My tricep is significant smaller on left arm and it makes my bicep seem different also....in all I got about 0.5 inch difference between arms....However this is fairly common...almost nobody in the gym is perfectly symmetrical....

Start doing more one arm lifts....also make sure both arms travel same path...so one doesn't go lower or higher....Smith machine is useful also.......go down to parallel...in eahc exercise....

i've come to the conclusion.....thats one side will always be a lil smaller.......howeve ri find my left leg and left arm maybe a lil smaller, but they are still strong. IF you look at pro bodybuilders......you can tell the dominate arm

One arm lifts are a good idea, so that your dominant arm can not overcompensate. I would stay away from the smith machine in general, and dont know how that would help.

people often lift at an angleon bench press or unevenly ...smith machine can only go up and down...so focus would be on pushing with left hand......

I understand what you are saying about lifting unevenly, but if you do a two handed lift on a smith machine, it is far too easy to overcompensate with the dominant arm. Also, the smith machine locks you in on one plane of motion, so it is not as effectice at building strength. I would stick with more dumbell work. Maybe its just me, but everything I hear from experianced coaches and everything I've done sorta puts a bad taste in my mouth as far as the smith machine.

Thank you for all of the advice, I have done the one arm exercises for a while, not a whole lot of a difference though. I was not taking it into account that 2/3 of your arm is the tricep and all that you (menace3000) said about that. Thank you for the advice, I appreciate it.

I hear what you're saying wrestler, but smith machine is good at allowing to lower the weight evenly and to the same point....most people hve a difficulty with this...I understand it's still more than possible to overcompensate with one arm while doing this...but if you consciously try to push harder with the weaker hand...that should solve most of this problem(My friend has been doing this for his left pec/tricep with great success) ...but even when you try you often lower the dumbells unevenly.....everything has its benefits and faults....so perhaps a mix of things is best...

what does it mean if you are right handed but your left arm is bigger? my bicep is much bigger on my left and my tricep appears larger too.

depends....

I write with my left...but do everything with my right...

for most people the hand that they use to write or do most things with...is their dominant hand....but not always

which arm do you shoot with when you play hoops?
If you got so mad that you wanted to punch someone...quick which hand?...almost always it will be the dominant hand...

It's possible to overcompensate with left in fear of it being weaker because it's the non-dominant arm...and make it become bigger....

just start doing most exercises unilaterally...one arm at a time...on bicep and tricep exercises....focus on just doing with your left what you were able to do with your right...over time you should correct the problem....always consciously try to push harder with the right more on every exercise you do....

if i want to punch its with my right, i write with my right (ha)... i do everything with it but my bicep is noticeably smaller... i havent messured but there is a nice bulge on the left and relatively nothing on the right arm. i figured i would concentrate on evening them out. when i did my bicep work out this week, i must have done something right cuz i can feel my right arm is a little tight. weird huh? thanks, nate
