I'm 6'1, currently around 185-190. I have a gut and some extra fat, but i'm still athletic. I never trained much, so i'm unsure as to wether I should be doing the progression training or the gain muscle mass and size training. My ultimate goal is to be fit, i'm not looking to become "big." I know i'll need to do the defintion training later, but would the gain muscle mass program help me reach my goal quicker or should I stick to the progressive training. Thanks for any replies.

by fit, i'm referring to a weight around 175-185, but if I just lose the weight, I obviously wouldn't have the muscle, I'd just have less fat. So, really i'm looking to stay my current weight or less, but add muscle. I know i'll probably have to gain weight to eventually achieve this, but thought that would give you a better idea of what i'm wanting to do. Also, which of the 3 diets (increase muscle mass, fat loss-get lean, progressive gains) would you recommend to go along with this? Thanks, again.

If your not wanting to get big then I wouldn't do a gain muscle mass and size program. Do high reps (10-15) so you will maintain your muscle mass and burn off any of the fat that is on them. Do cardio every other day, I wouldn't do it everyday because you may lose some muscle and your not overweight anyways. Make a low fat, high protein, medium carb diet. Around 1800 to 2000 calories a day. Drink a lot of water, around a gallon a day or more, and don't drink any type of soft drink. You should see results quickly.

You could do a short mass and strength workout, a couple weeks just to get your muscles pumped... then the progression. That would help you do it quicker without getting too big.
