I've been lifting and training for a long time since highschool, I have now been in college for 1 year and Since I have turned 18 almost 1 year ago, I have seen amazing gains. My squat has gone up 70 pounds more than twice my body weight, bench 35 pounds, other lifts, my hang clean form is great I'm almost at my body weight, my 40 yard time has improved by one whole second, I'm in great shape. I have been doing all this training in hopes of walking on my college football team. I Went to their camp when I was in highschool and they said that if I came here that I should definitely come and try out, I have just managed to keep missing tryouts due to illness at the wrong times, but any how, I have talked with the defensive end coach and he completely remembered me and said he wants me to come out in the fall and just make sure I dont get sick, he also introduced me to the head strength and conditioning coach and they gave me a 3 week plan which I completed and now they will be mailing me my summer workout and conditioning program. For a good while I was having problems gaining muscle weight, but then I started eating alot more, taking weight gainer 2200 gold from GNC, mega whey extreme from GNC, and L-Arginine w/ L-orinithine, and I have gained about 3 lbs. of lean muscle in the past few months. When I went to turn in my workout logs last week, the head coach wasn't there so one of the sports nutritionists said I could weight in his office, and we talked about my diet and stuff like that, and he gave me this nutrition book on sports performance he wrote, and he told me that recommends that I take CREATINE MONOHYDRATE over the summer.
I have tried to avoid that supplement just because my doctor told me when I was 16 or 17 not to take it, but now I'm 18 and the info. that I have read says that it should be pretty safe for an 18 year old, almost 19. I don't know what would happen if I took that supplement with my extremely intense workouts and conditioning. I mean I have done great staying away from that stuff but Football season is right around the corner and I'm going to be playing for one of the best teams in the NCAA Division 1. I have the skills, I just need to keep making my body better.
I don't know if I should take it?? If the benefits are high I will. What do yall think the effects of it would be on me with my workouts and other supplements? Can take creatine, plus the weight gainer, plus the protein shake, plus the arginine? What gains have yall seen or had from taking creatine already starting at an advanced training level??? The article says that you mostly stop growing at 18, but don't you grow until you're 21?? This past year alone I have gone from 6'3 to 6'4. Also in his guide it says to take the creatine 5 times a day for the first 5 days at 5 grams a serving and then 10 grams a day after that. Doesn't that seem like alot?? will that give me stomach problems ex. upset, diarrhea????

I want and need to be the best.

Take creatine....get the CEE type...it's better absorbed by the body so you need to take less of it...

take 2 g before workout and 2g after.....

take 2 g on days you don't workout....

you can take it indefinitely....no loading necessary.....no need to cycle off......

Definitely a good supplement to try...

SOme people grow into their early 20s...it all depends....Michael Jordan grew 3 inches in 3 years of college from 6'3 to 6'6....Dennis Rodman was 5'8 a 18/19...before his huge growth spurt....so it's possible...but creatine has nothing to do with growth one way or another in terms of height...so i's perfectly fine...(just as long as you don't have prexisting kidney ailments)

I really dont think I have any kidney problems since my body has performing superbly lately, but I have been eating lots and lots of protein my whole life.
But does anybody have great success stories with using this stuff already at this level of training????

What is it suppose to do to your body??? What does it do?

...you may see gains of as much as 10% in your lifts...

I have used creatine without any problems for over 2 years non-stop...very good...

10% of what , 10% of max. lift added onto to my max?
2005/05/04, 02:06 AM
yes...so best case scenario if you bench 200 max....your new max will be 220....

however people react differently to it...some get 0 benefits...(the so called 'non-responders'...)

oh hell naw, I know that, and I don't want to do that for sure. I'm just saying i'm real iffy about taking it, I have done better than great on my own , I just don't if it will be that much greater if I took it, and If it was like super, then I wouldn't want to get dependent on it.

You don't......I take it, but i'm not religious about it. IF your that concerened take it only on training days. I keep a lil container in my car with glutaman and creatine mix, but if I forget to take it.....oh well. I see no reason not too, buy a small jug on inexpensive creatine.....and take it beofr eyour workout with some gatoraid.....( basicly waht cell tech is) try it for a month if you don't like it.....your only out like 10 -12 bucks? And thats a supplement you know for a fact you don't need or dont "work"

10 or 12 bucks where are you buying that at, GNC's creatine monohydrate is $31 for 1000 grams, Well the next time I go to shop at GNC they are having a buy one get one 50% off sale , so I was going to get 2 weight gainers, 2 creatines, and 1 protein shake, plus 20% off but that is still like $100. I'm wondering how I could make this cheaper by cutting something out? but I dont know which one, I would like this stuff to last 4 months before I have to buy more.

I take creatine about every other day..it works ok.......

WHy do you need weight gainers? you can eat whole foods...

buy your supplements online...price compare them....google.com to get initial website then go website to website for lets say top 10 and compare total price(pricE+any taxes+S&H)

If you don't want to use creatine then don't....I was hesitant to try initially also....however it worked out fine for me...but again it's just 1% on top of everything else.....you technically don't need any supplements....maybe a whey supplement....

well I just went out earlier today and Bought 1000 grams of GNC Creatine Monohydrate, I am now confident that I should see great results from it. I also bought another weight gainer, to save expenses I downgraded from Mega Whey Extreme to just Designer whey, I figured that creatine would help so much with recovery I wouldn't need the glutamine or 7 grams of leucine as much, also since they are in the weight gainer.

Thanks for yallz help.

whoops 1 more thing.

In the loading phase, since I have to take 5 grams 5 times a day for the first 5 days, how often should I spread those 5 doses out in 1 day??????????????

during loading, you need about 20 g/day. take 10 g in the morning, and then 10 g postworkout, mixed with dextrose, gatorade, juice, etc.. some sort of sugar to get an insulin spike for better absorption. if you workout in the morning, i would just take 10 g post workout, then 8- 12 hours later take your next 10 g. drink tons of water too..
2005/05/06, 10:37 AM
I would forget about loading and just take 5g a day....after 30 days it will be same as loading...less stress on kidneys also...

all depends on your goals.. if you are looking for faster results you can load.. but in the end both ways work

It should feel no different. You will just retain more water and be able to do more repetitions.

I know you are suppose to retain more water, but then why do so many people get dehydrated. I usually drink 1-2 gallons of water per day and I haven't started using the creatine yet.

Excellent question...

The reason people dehydrate is actually BECAUSE they are retaining water. What happens, is instead of all the water you drink going towards what its supposed to do to clean your system and rehydrate your body, is it all gets sucked into muscles instead. It also may cause you to perspire much more, which is another reason you may dehydrate. 1-2 gallons is excellent. I usually try to drink 1 gallon of water in addition to juices and gatorade and milk and stuff. I dont think you will have this problem if you continue drinking 1-2 gallons. Then again, I'm not on creatine...

All the water can't get sucked into your muscles, or else you would die and wouldn't be able to exercise right?????

Fantastic quote minus the throwing up part, lol.

yeah, what he said. It also causes you to urinate more frequently from what I am told (brought this up with my coach the other day). I dont know, I've only briefly experimented with creatine. It made me gain to much weight to wrestle at the weight i wanted to, so i had to stop. I didnt have too many complaints though.

I've been on it for 2 days, but damn after I've ingested the 3rd does (15g) my stomach gets real upset and then I have had to use the bathroom 2-3 times a day. But after the first day of loading I went and trained and it was kind of weird, my body seemed to recover a hell of alot faster between sets than normal, it usually takes me 2 hours and 45 minutes to workout, yesterday it only took me 1 hour 30 minutes and I did extra stuff.
Is this common??? Is the upset stomach and diarrhea common in the loading phase??? will this go away in the maintenance phase???????

Id reduce the loading dose. loading really isnt as important as everyone makes it out to be.
2 hours and 45 minutes of lifting??? you should try to keep your workouts under an hour, otherwise your body starts mass producing cortisol, which is very detrimental to your recovery and results. And it causes your muscles to produce more ATP, or energy, so yes, sorter TBS is to be expected.

well It's just that I will still be in the loading phase today and tomorrow. But since the second day I haven't had diarrhea. I don't think I will have any problems in the maintenance phase.

I would totally skip the loading phase, and do 5 grams per day, 10 grams on days you work out.

I have read some stuff somwhere......that the body can only up tak eso much of creatine.....5-10g anything els eis just pissed away...literally. SO my taking 5 g before workouts and after......you save money, and keep the diarrea at bay.

id take a day off everynow and then. Maybe do some stretching and mental stuff, but your body needs a recovery day, regardless of how you train.

Ok, now I've been in the maintenance phase for 2 days at 10 grams a day, but my last workout monday I went real hard and lifted a good 15-20 lbs. higher in hang cleans and bench for reps on my last set since the previous friday, and then I did extra stuff. I woke up tuesday and I didn't feel like I worked out, my body was berely tired at all.
But the workout I'm doing also require lots of sprinting and 2 weeks ago my total conditioning for the week was 6,000 yards and now one of my hamstrings feels all f**ked up. I can't sprint, but I can stretch perfectly, and my knees don't hurt and I can walk so I know it's not pulled. ?????????
