Looking for some fitness experts advice. I was wondering if the results are better working out in the morning rather than the afternoon. I have more time in the morning, would be working out about 430 am. If I do work out in the morning is is there anything I should & should not eat the night before, before workout & during the course of the day after workout? I have a very athletic body & am just trying to lose the little gut I have obtained from not working out the past 2 years since my son was born & getting my six pack back & toning up & getting a little bigger.

Workout when it best fits into your schedule and you will be consistent with it.
What to eat and when is a common discussion here - spend some time reading through past posts on pre-workout and post-workout, bedtime meals, meal planning. Your situation is simialr to many people's.

not too educated on the whole diet thing. was just going to repeat what i did 2yrs ago when working out, just didn't know if it would need to change a little since i will be working out in the morning now instead of the afternoon. should i eat something at night to have the energy in the morning or do i need to eat something in the morning instead.

I would say eat something in the morning before you work out (for energy). That's what I do, usually something light before...couple pieces of whole wheat toast or something is what I eat, then workout and immediately have a protein shake after, and then a bigger breakfast about an hour to an hour and a half after workout. Asimmer or someone else might recommend something more substantial for breakfast though...not sure, but if they do listen to them over me, they're much more experienced then I.

You want some protein and carbs an hour to an hour and a half before you lift. oatmeal and egg whites, or a shake with oatmeal and strawberries and whey protein.
When I work out early, i find a shake digests quickly and gives me the energy to workout. then be sure to replenish with a shake after you workout and a good meal about an hour after the shake, with complex carbs and protein.

what are some examples of complex carbs compared to regular carbs?

Oatmeal (not flavored, sugary kind), whole wheat bread, vegetables. Check the grocery list for healthy eating post - I think it lists complex cars as a category. basically complex carbs are fibrous and will sustain your energy longer because they take longer to break down in your system.
