Hi there everyone. My FT programme tells me to do some standing lateral raises (with dumbells) and with it gives the advice:

"While performing this exercise, be sure NOT TO turn your thumbs down at the top of the movement"

But I don't know what 'turning your thumbs' is to be able to avoid doing it.. Is it perhaps telling me to lock my wrists throughout the movement and not allow them to go limp at the top of the lift?

Any help, greatly received
Chris

Well, I believe they mean to keep the dumbbells at the same perpendicular position to your body throughout the entire movement. In other words, when you get to the top of the movement, do not turn the dumbbells downward, thus the thumb postion pointing down. Lateral raises aren't really a "bulking" movement, more is attained with them by doing a lighter weight stricter to isolate the side delts.

Thanks for that, and thanks for the "Lateral raises aren't really a bulking movement" tit-bit of info. I'm getting more info and help with training from this site than I have from over three years milling around inside my gym!
