Is bowflex as good as all my friends say it is? I'd like to know some of the positives and (especially)the negatives of this strange looking equiptment. Thank you.

one of my co-workers said that she bought one for her son to help him regain strength in his muscle after ski accident
that`s all I know.... but I wanted it to get it but it costs too much

I was always curious about bowflex and was close to buying one but I think NOTHING BEATS FREE WEIGHTS. that is just my opinion. As it will be most of the people here on freetrainers.

Bowflex is mainly for people who just want to be fit, so it really depends on your own personal fitness goals. There's no way I could do any of my powerlifts on the Bowflex. My wife had one that she never used so we sold it in favor of freeweights. For the money, its not worth it in my opinion. You could buy 3 freeweight home gyms for the price of 1 Bowflex. Freeweights - you vs. gravity - is the way to go.

I have one, they do work. I don't use mine exclusively though. I use a lot of free weights because it's all about attacking the muscles with different angles, and methods. It is very versatile though.

If all you want is a lean body then go for it if you can afford it. In my opinion nothing will give you the thick large muscles that free weights can give you.

The Bowflex, in my opinion is worse than regular machines for the simple fact that resistance is not constant throughout you range of motion due to those silly bow mechansims that they use for resistance. I agree with mutt - it's almost like expensive calisthenics.
