both...after workout for example you want 2:1 ratio of simple carbs to your protein....maybe even 3:1....so 60-90g of simple carbs to 30g of protein...
Through most of the day stick to complex carbs
...eat about 2-3g of total carbs per lb....and eat about 1g of protein per lb....with the rest of calories coming in from healthy fats...try to add about 500 calories to your maintenance level....
