Heres another lil piece of advice....that I have come to realize.....
We all starting working out with one thing in mind......BIG BENCH PRESS......I did, and 90% of guys on here did too.....but whatever lift it is we want it big, and we want it fast.
!st mile stone for any guy is to bench 225 because we all know 2 45lb plats looks so pretty on the bar. Then its 275.....then eventually 315.....cause its 3 45s.
But in are rush to add that next plate, we jump too much becuase of are desire to get to the next milestone. Jumping from 135 to 225 and struggle for 2 or 3 reps......do 3 more sets of this.....hoping one day to get 275 or 315 doing the same weight over and over again, just cause it looks cool.
But we forget that to get to 275...one need to bench 230....235...240..etc......before one can attain "the next plate"
But the most important plate isn't the 45 or 35....not even the 10s.........the most important plate in your arsonal is the measly 2.5lbs plats. This lil easly lost plate is the best thing in the gym.
Why? I dunno about you guys, but weither i'm dling, squating, benching etc......adding 5lbs to the lift...I can't really tell by "feel" that this is 225 of 230....not that big a differance. But I can tell the differance between 225 and 250.....
heres my point, just because it "feels" the same to you say your doing 230 instead of 225......your muscles can tell and will adapt...."feeling" is the nervious stystems job......and you can trick it! That lil 5lbs increase will do alot for in in the long run.
think about it......5lbs a week on a lift.....hell even 5lbs added ever other week......totals to 10 -20lbs extra working weight on your lifts a month.....so what was a 225lb 5 rep....can be 235 to 245lb 5 rep.....easly in a month.
So just cause those lil 2.5s are small and don't add up much..........
but world records have been set by 5 lbs.......and by .10ths of a second, games won by one point......so think about it ...........

I agree andrew. Don't worry I haven't forgotten about the 2.5's I use them all the time. It's weird how there are only 2 2.5 plates in my gym. It's Gold's to. I think I'm the only one that uses them.

but what about size? doesnt it work better the more weight you lift?
i think people as you say andrew, focus on going to the next plate because it not only looks good on the bench, but because it will make you grow, doesnt it?

Not if you can't lift it... if you put too much on I think you're just asking for trouble... little steps...

Funny, I always notice the difference when I add a 2.5 plate. Must be because mine are in kilos, and nothing to do with the fact that I'm only benching 30kg

Got to agree with that I can allways feel the increase, I think if you could jump a lot of weight that easily it was probably to light, and you are risking injury and proper form.
