Somtimes when I'm working out I wont get a muscle pump at all but I will work the muscle to fatigue. In a day or so I will feel sore. Is this usual(no pump)? It makes me feel like I should do more.

maybe your going to heavy. Try to focus on the form of the exercise and squeeze your muscle at the top of the movement. Slowly lower the weight, and then explode up. Try it out. It might just work with this "pump" that you strive for.

well u can do that but that will build more mass of muscle not strength, the pump is more of a body builder thing and what DX14AG said, if your focusing on the exercise more his sorta spot on but do not lock out at the actually top of the movement u can squeeze near the top but dont llock out at the top as u want to be able to keep constant pressure on that muscle to stimulate growth and have that extra pump

Hello all, and thanks for your reply! Justin, What I'm doing now to get that "pump feeling" is on my bicep curl I lowered the weight from 40 to 30lbs and instead of 3 sets of 16,14,12 I did 3 sets of 20. Also I "exploded up" (so to speak)and on my way down I went as slow as I could go, concentrating on the movement of the bicep in both directions. It seemed to help.
Timmstar, thanks I dont think I was locking out at the extention of the movement, but next workout I will make myself concious of that fact and make sure I do not lock out. I guess it is just me but when I do not get that tight pump feeling I feel like I did not work out hard enough. Maybe Its just me? Thank you guys for your reply!!!

wow, that is way too many repetitions. You are not doing yourself any good really by going that high. Your not challengging your muscles, you just teaching them endurance. By doing this you will actually lose muscle. 12 reps is really the highest I would go, Make sure your using correct form and really concentrate on the muscle your working and flex it when your lift.

Justin,
Thanks foe the advice. Would sets of 12,10,8 be better, using a weight that I fatigue the muscle by the end of the set?

Why don't you try to get aroudn 10 reps for each set? I find that it works great for me. Keep the weight heavy and yes continue to focus on form and fatigueing the muscle.

12,10,8 sounds likea good pyramid scheme and is one i use often. that last rep should always be hard finish and when it stops becoming hard is the time when you up the weight.
