What you are doing is thickening your waist. Twisting movements develop your obliques...thus thickening. Add in regular and reverse crunches and work on building your lats to give a narrow waist appearance. That and do lots of cardio and eat well to lose excess body fat. PAT

losing excess bodyfat is correct. There is no spot reduction. Appearance can greatly aid, such as if you increase your shoulder and lat developement, it will give your waist the illusion of being smaller. Most people do twists and torso rotation for the wrong reasons..they think they are working their waist. As Lonegirl says, it actually is for the obliques, the tie ins to your abs that run at an angle to your abs. Diet is your answer. And unfortunately, the fat will most probably not come off your waist first, but in some cases likely last. Your body does not know you want it to come off your waist only. But the good news is with sticking with it, it will! Best of luck to you.
