I have been doing the lean progressive gains now for several weeks and have lost 4 pounds from my starting weight (I know scales suck but they are telling me that I am losing overall body weight). Keep in mind I have already went through the weight loss and toning program. Since it is impossible to build muscle and lose weight at the same time what is happening to my body? Am I losing fat and muscle? Will my body continue to keep the muscle I have while losing remaining fat stores since I am working out?
I certainly don't have a problem if I end up looking like a well conditioned lightweight boxer (as an example) but I don't want to end up looking like a skinny guy with no muscle tone.
I have been consuming approximately 2300 calories a day with a diet that I would consider super clean. If I continue this trend will I be able to conserve the muscle I have or am I just wasting my time trying?
Thanks

How do you look? are you seeing new definition? Have you checked your body composition?
Is the 4 lbs always missing, or could you have been dehydrated?
If the weight loss continues, you may want to increase your calories slightly, maybe by 100 or 200.

Asimmer,
Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately its not as simple as how I look. I tend to look at myself as still obese but that is another story altogether.
As far as definition I don't see any real changes or increase in defined muscles. Definately not dehydrated as I drink a whopping 1 1/2 to 2 gallons of water daily.
i am truly trying my hardest to make things work but in the 4 months since I have been weight training the results are less than spectacular (although the weight loss was nice). I was under the impression that beginners showed good results initially which is one of the reasons I am so dissapointed.
I have been taking photos to mark the journey but it is difficult to get them posted in my profile. If you have the time or inclination you can email me at Luvthemtorts@yahoo.com and I will gladly send you the photos. Honestly I would appreciate the objective opinion.
Thanks again for your reply

Not sure what you're current weight is, but at 6'0" I would suspect 160-175. I'm 5'4" and 152lb (currently shooting for 145) but my maintenance calories are about 2300, and currently losing 1.5-2 lbs a week at 1900. So I would take a gander that you're not eating enough. Just my 2 cents.

Sorry, that was an old email address - resend them to me at aesdms@msn.com and I will look at them.
I think you are just losing a little fat and water, most likely, see if it keeps dropping, though and ad some calories.
How much protein are you getting in?

Asimmer,
I resent the email with the photos attached.
As far as protein I am actually consuming around 240 grams a day which is much more than my FT nutrition guide recommends. Is this dangerous or detrimental to my health?
Also I want to publicly thank you for taking the time to help me with this!!
