I'm trying to cut down on my fat, so I've been lower my calories per week and doing more cardio on top of having a 3 day a week lifting schedule. However, every day from 7-3:30 I am at work lifting/carrying heavy stacks of 2x4's. The work changes up frequently throughout the day (sometimes i'm working constantly, other times there are down periods), however, for the most part I am burning a lot of calories all day. So I was wondering if it would beneficial/detrimental to add cardio in the morning before going to work? Because by doing the morning cardio I feel like I would be burning too many calories to maintain my muscle mass...

With an active lifestyle you may want to ease into it. First change your diet (eat 6 healthy mini-meals throughout the day), do the weight training and see if you're losing weight/inches. If not then add cardio to your week (maybe 3 times a week for 30 minutes).

Most people when they start to work out go from nearly sedentary to active so it's easier to judge, but you do raise a good question. Important thing is making sure you know your maintenance calories (# of calories to maintain your current weight) then you can drop 100-200 a week from there till you see results. Just curious how fast you're lifting these 2X4's and if it would be considered a cardio workout. Regardless some cardio would be good to build up endurance either way.

Also drink a gallon or 2 of water every day. It will hold hunger at bay slightly and what I've learned is it helps me to trust my stomach if it says I'm hungry (rather then mistaking dehydration for hunger), then I might need to adjust my diet to get more calories. Typically you shouldn't get hungry, however some days are more active then others and I'll burn through what I've eaten pretty quick and have to add an extra snack or 2 (of something healthy obviously).

Hope that helps.

yeah go slowly until you are ready for some more.
if you add up more cardio, you probably wont endure at work:big_smile: i think you are pretty active, just give it some times and you will see good results
