Tho I'm sure this question MUST have been posted in the past, I did several FB searches on this question and couldn't successfully find a post.
If I'm waking up, rolling out of bed and half awake get my a** to the gym at 5 am... what is the best pre-workout (weights not cardio) food?
- Should I go all-natural like an apple?
- Or a fat free yogurt?
- A protein shake wouldn't give me energy (most that we buy are mainly just provide a pretty straight protein supp)
THANK YOU!!

For breakfast I eat 6 egg whites and 1/2cup oats. Good protein and good complex carb for energy.

I'm not asking about breakfast, a pre-workout meal... was more curious what other people eat.
I usually eat:
- protein shake & 1/2 apple, or
- low fat yogurt / 1/2 apple
Thanks guys.

You might want to try a protein shake and an oatmeal based granola bar (for energy). The bar will have some sugar for immediate energy and the oats for a more sustained energy.
When I work out that early all I can stomach is a low carb shake.
Do you find you have enough energy for your workout?

Nope, I tend to get pretty wiped out trying to workout that early with only a low carb shake.
I do feel like I have more energy when I do the yogurt & 1/2 apple, but sometimes the apple is a bit too much on my stomach that early... I'll try to find a good granola bar.
Thanks everyone who responded!
