I am female, and I dont even get half of my recommended protein by what I am eating. I am thinking of getting a protein supplement, how much would I need to take and does it help? My profile says I need about 260 g, and i am getting just under 100g. I could eat a little more, but not much more....

Thought there was supposed to be no advertising on this site:(
Shelby7851, it is always best to get your nutrition from whole foods. Great sources of protien are chicken, eggs, lean meats, cottage cheese, low fat cheeses, seafood (shrimp) fish....etc. There's nothing wrong with a protien shake, but don't depend on them as a main protien source. There is a great list in the nutrition post called "grocery list for healthy eating" it is sticky'd at the top of the message board. DAG447...shame on you! -------------- Even if you are on the right track, you will get run over if you just sit there. |

Sorry did you say 260g's of protein a day??? That's an excessive amount of protein to intake daily, even when I wasn't dieting and eating 2000 calories a day I was only getting 180g's of protein. At the moment I’m dieting again and my intake is 130g.
I think the most protein you'll need a day is 150g especially if you're not looking to build muscle. ============ Quoting from shelby7851: I am female, and I dont even get half of my recommended protein by what I am eating. Yes, but is she doing a low carb diet? I think most men would have a hard time trying to get 260g of protein when dieting. It's an excessive amount to be taking daily.
Protein is important, but that amount is just too much and a waste of money. |

I to am not impressed with dag447's blatant use of advertising for his own monetary gain. I find that repulsive when this person is looking for an honest answer to her question. Leslie |

Shelby...Here's my two cents.
Call your Dr and Pediatrician and check with them before you start any supplements of any kind while nursing. Protein supps aren't a big issue...however I would recommend you do it anyways so that they're aware of it and can even help you out on your diet while nursing. Nursing can drain a lot of nutrients from your body...so getting anything through supps while nursing is going to rob your body of the nutrients you would normally get from food and pass to the baby. Again it's probably not an issue with Whey protein...but better to be safe then sorry. |

yes leslieherr, that is what the "shame on you" was referring to. I'm finding DAG447's signiture rather offensive as well, however, I guess this falls under the moderators territory. Maybe I'm just being sensitive, dunno.:surprised:

Ok ok guys lets not get onto his case... if it's gonna be a problem i think the mods would have taken care of it-------------- ~If A equals success, then the formula is: A = X + Y + Z, X is work. Y is play. Z is keep your mouth shut. |

I just think you won't be able to intake 260g's of protein a day, it's way too much. Some people say the nutritional program is broke on here lol. If you're lowering your calories for dieting then that amount of protein a day looks like an impossible amount to be reaching, not unless you just live off cottage cheese.
I would try and keep your protein between 150g-170g if you can manage it. Remember your only looking to maintain your muscle not build any yet. Although if you’re a beginner you might build muscle at first. ============ Quoting from shelby7851: that was the amount the nutritional profile gave me on here..... ============= |

Set your protein at 1.2-1.5 gr. per lb. of bodyweight per day. This is each and every day, a steady supply never stopping. This should be plenty for everyone, special circumstances not included(contest dieting, etc. where of course protein needs drastically increase).
Ok the above is from bb1fit, in a post from last year I believe. I did not copy/paste the whole post. If you still are not sure check out fitbuddy there are tons of posts on this and they all pretty much recommend the same thing. Leslie |
