I think im going to start adding burnouts to my workouts, is this good? Burnouts are like 10 reps, lower the weight fast, 10 more reps, lower weight again, 10 more reps. I really feel the burn. Would you suggest these? |

Yes to shock the body, it's a brilliant idea. Don't do it every week though. -------------- - Nina :o) Les Victoires éternelles sont celles du coeur. |

Burnouts (10 reps, lower the weight, 10 reps, lower the weight, and keep repeating until exhaustion)
What exactly are Burnouts for? Is it to increase muscular endurance? |

Something I like to do for biceps is "run the rack". Start with a low weight dumbbell and run the rack to your max and back to low weight again. But, I do not do this every week, just once in a while when I need a shock to get going again. You will really feel the burn on the way back down.-------------- :dumbbell: Do whats right. Do the best you can. And treat others the way you like to be treated. :dumbbell: |

Burn outs, have been around along time they are also known as drop sets.-------------- I am that which must be feared, worshipped and adored. The world is mine now and forever. No one holds command over me. No man. No god. I am ANIMAL! and that is enough. |

mmaibohm...you nailed it! Nothing new about these. The key is to go to failure with your heaviest weight first.

Just did chest (bench press) with reps 10-8-6-4-2-1(my max weight on last set/ ten lb. increase each set) then started at my 8 rep weight and did 10 then dropped down 2 more sets to failure 15 reps then 20 on the next. Really helped feel the exercise. I had forgotten about doing this every once in a while. Thanks for the reminder guys.

The best way to do these with plates is for instance, say your top bench is 135. Instead of putting (2) 45 lb. plates on each side, put (3) 10'S, and (3) 5's. Now, upon completion of of your first set to failure with the full 135, rack the bar, drop off the (3) 5's and immediately hit it again to failure. Rack the bar, drop off a 10, and go again without rest. This may sound light, but your body will not know it by this time!! These sets are killer, the key is max out on each set and do the next with no rest, just long enough to strip off the amount of weight.-------------- If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.... bb1fit@freetrainers.com |

Thanks bb, I haven't done them that way without rest. I will try it next time I do chest. I definitely understand why that will burn and work great, because even with the rest I felt the impact. Only do burn outs like 1-2 times per month? or more than that?

if you're trying to gain muscle, these are completely useless. burnouts, or drop down sets, or whatever you want to call them, are archaic routines.

And prey tell why would you say this? Let me guess, you are a Max Ot person??
Making a blanket statement like that is both irresponsible and uncalled for, let alone showing a lack of knowlege of our sport. ============ Quoting from namrepus: if you're trying to gain muscle, these are completely useless. burnouts, or drop down sets, or whatever you want to call them, are archaic routines. ============= -------------- If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.... bb1fit@freetrainers.com |

max ot? never heard of it. i'm sorry for making this statement, but i'm speaking from experiance. if you want to build muscle at the fastest rate possible, don't do drop down sets. if you're going for definition, sure, go for it. for mass, NO.

Can you give us the benefit of your expertise...how long you been training, your credentials in the bb world, and some backup to validate your statements?

I was all ready to go into the physiology of a muscle, why one set training method is not good, etc.
But, by reading your post, I see this is not necessary. :dumbbell: The more astute of our members(which we have many of) who read this thread will understand. Anyway, welcome to our boards. intresting namrepus....anyone can brag....but from my expierance personally doing stuff like this....it does work for size. You just have to do it differently.
And bb1 can brag cause I can see his body and hear is knowledge. -------------- ....I'm probably in my underwear typing this......or maybe not! |

i don't like to brag, so i won't. "You just have to do it differently" - please explain. "it does work for size" - maybe, but is this the most optimal way to gain mass? no. also, bb1fit, i was wondering if you could elaborate on why one set training method is not good. is two set training method ok? two sets after the warmup of course. thank you.

personally i love drop sets... i don't see how it wouldn't be able to help with size either judging by the pump you get.. i'm no genius though
