I used to take protein powder last year and I really didn't notice any difference but I was wondering how effective it would be. I'm trying to lose weight, I work out about 5 days a week (2-3 days of which I incorporate weights), I gain muscle mass very easily and do not want to bulk.
So should I take protein or are there other supplements I might need?

A good whey protein taken with water immediatly post workout is always good. Other than that if you can meet your protein needs with whole food, thats always better. As a female you won't bulk unless you're a genetic rarity. Welcome to FT kolby.

exactly like charlie said, protein shakes postworkout are a must.. mixed with water, they are absorbed quickly by your muscles, and will go to work immediately repairing damage from the workout. any other time of the day they can be used to SUPPLEMENT daily protein intake, to help reach whatever amount of protein you need in a day. they are a good meal replacement, as they arent too filling, and can be thrown together in a glass of milk, say, for a quick afternoon snack delivering a whack of protein, and may also stave off being ravenous before supper

I haven't heard that... whey protein is natural protein so i don't think that it really matters at all even though soy DOES have nutrients other than protein

i think men are supposed to stay away from too much soy.. since it contains a synthetic form of estrogen
