you dont need no2.. and yes, if you put in the hard work at the gym, a protein shake will HELP build muscle. you cant rely on it by itself, it must be combined with hard training to be effective. remember, it is only a supplement, a fast absorbing protein source that the bodily readily uses after a workout

tblocc there are no short cuts...think of supplements as an icing on the cake or cherry on top of an icecream sundae( sure it's fun to eat it first....but you don't get a bottle of cherries at the restaraunt...right?)...
protein in moderation will allow you to build maximal muscle....if you put in the hard (and correct) work in the gym...training 3-5 days a week....fullbody(this means squats with a barbell, deadlifts....big compound exercises that few enjoy doing...and when you do these...do them right).....also make sure your diet is in order....your nutrition will either make or break you despite your efforts in the gym....so sufficient protein daily(1g per 1 lb), lots of carbs...(2-3g per lb, and most should be the complex variety, except right after workouts when it should be simple(dextrose), eat healthy fats....all in all try to get 500 calories on top of your normal intake to add muscle/strength)...
creatine works well for many people also...monohydrate powder or ethyl ester varieties....do not get liquid of any sort....although you should have 1-2 years of solid years before taking it....
I suggest against NO...it's not for a beginner...and the effective dosages are quite expensive(10-15g daily)...
