protein rebuilds muscle which is torn when you work out.. best to take it within an hour after your workout, mixed with water. they are fast absorbing, and will get to damaged muscles quickly.. they also make a good meal replacement mixed with milk, as a smoothie with fruit, etc. you can be any age to take it..

check out this link for anabolic state

Just in case you didn't know, you don't "need" a protein shake to reach your goals. If you can get your protein from food sources, that would be much better. Protein shakes are only a supplement that will aid you if you cannot get enough protein from whole food sources such as tuna and chicken breast. It is however best to take it immidiately after workout just as bropie said. Take it with water instead of milk after the workout because it will get to your muscles quicker than with the milk. Mixed with milk would be great any other time of the day. (except for before workout I believe) Hope this helps. Anabolic state means the state that your body builds muscle pretty much.

my brother is a model and he has been doing this workout where the instructor has asked him to have plain banana shake (no sugar) everyday... he has ben looking great since the time he's been doing that. Banana shake helps him gain the energy lost and there is absolutely low fat value in it... This helps people who are trying to build muscles...
And milk in egg is not harmful at all... however it is used by people who are trying to gain weight..
