Do you have any neck pain or, headaches, dizziness? If so, see a Doc asap.

all i can say, is make sure your shoulders are stable and flexible enough to handle a clean. Stretch, do arm circles, and try doing overhead squats for a while to work on shoulder flexibility. I know you said its your upper back, but that could be a problem with your shoulders. Does it hurt during or after the movement? If so, how severe is it? Powerlifting and olympic lifting is alot of living in the gray area between progression and injury.

it doesnt hurt at all it just feels like a tingle twitch feeling, it comes DURING the movement when i move really fast i figured it may be a possiblilty of me pulling the weight too quickly and one point is weaker then the other as i switch muscles during the movement of lift from pulling to cleaning it and finishing the lift.i dont think its a problem with my shoulders there one of my best parts of my body, although i will take your advice and do overhead squats for a while and see if i need to improve flexibility on shoulders a bit. all in all it doesnt have any after effects i just dont want it to be my spine one day giving out...

well how tight can you keep your abs? i contract and use them as i am doing the cleaning pulling motion... and no its not that exercise... haha, also lightening up the weight will just mean im not pushing myself enough on a weight i should be...kind of like a poping feeling with a twitch or crack in it but it isnt a bit on just a tingle enuf to make my spine or mid top back to not feel quiet right during the lift...anyone know some exercises to work the top middle back or middle trap or lower beck area? maybe that may help... anyway im gonna see if overhead squats work

yeh im basically into olympic style lifting but i also like the thought of doing them with speed but lowering the weight to 60 or so percetangeseems well really light... i could be doing barbel curls with it... nonetheless i feel quicker with the heavier weight makes mee feel more tight in my form.. if u know what i mean?

i started lifting weights a little over a year ago, and have really gotten into to it. I love going to the gym and lifting. i have recently started to do cleans bc i wanted to do something different. now a lot of ppl told me they were one of the best exercises i could do, but some others have told me that theyre overrated and that im pretty much wasting my time. my goal now is to get stronger and faster, what do u guys think????

Olympic lifters have the highest vertical leaps out of everyone at the Olympics. You tell me if there are worth the effort...

Form only gets worse as you get heavier if you're not trained properly to handle heavy weight. And a max effort attempt will bring out a weakness in the form of bad technique. That is not a bad thing as long as you're not doing it all the time. That shows you where you need to get better. Catching a heavy clean properly requires great speed and power. If it is done properly it is good to get heavy because it makes your lighter weight move faster.

" Catching a heavy clean properly requires great speed and power." As you get faster and your form gets better in the powerclean, your weights will go up. If you want to lower the weight, but still work the pulling motion, then try power snatches. A little tougher to learn, but still a great olympic lifts. I would say work through it, but keep an eye on it.
If you watch olympic lifters, in the olympics, they usually complete the movement very quickly, and the weight usually doesn't get that high. This is where form and speed come in.
Let me know how the overhead squats feel.

The best feeling in the world is the feeling you get after a tough set of squats after you step back from the power rack and throw up all over the floor.

Snatches are easier to learn than a clean. The catch is less difficult to teach too. Racking a clean properly requires a lot of practice and flexibility in the wrist. I teach my athletes how to snatch first because everyone I work with has always picked it up faster. Along with overhead squats, train the pressing snatch balance, heave pressing snatch balance, and snatch balance. These are skill transfer exercises and will develop an excellent snatch. That is how USAW teaches it too.

What is a snatch balance. Is that when you do things like pressing while in the hole? I know there's one exercise I did at a clinic that involved a full snatch, then dropping back down to the whole, pressing the weight, and then standing up and putting the weight down. I think it was some type of snatch-press, forget what it was called.

A snatch balance isn't a pressing movement. The bar is on your upper traps with a snatch width grip. Start by dipping the knees 4-6 inches, drive forcefully upward, followed by punching your self under the bar in an overhead squat position. Finish the movement by standing and resesting the feet.

do you mean kinda like a push press but from a back squat position? except you have to drop into the whole to complete the snatch. do i have the right idea?
