What are your goals? Seems pretty light on calories in general for starters.
And chicken and cereal for breakfast?? Really, it is fine, but seems a terrible combination taste wise. -------------- If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.... bb1fit@freetrainers.com |

My goal is to gain lean muscle mass. I'm not very big on taste really. As long as it's good for the body I'll take it in.

The protein is actually pretty high considering my body weight and height. Height is 5'8" weight is 154 or so. My carbohydrates are pretty low (36) because I think that if I add them too soon that I will just gain fat weight. My fat intake isn't very high either (12.5). The protein is however (173).
man_of_steel, I'm going to have to do without the protein shakes for now. My parents can't take me to the nutrition store right now. DX |

My question from above formed another way is, what is your caloric intake? Trying to gain lean muscle is nice, but a boatload of protein and nothing else with minimal calories will not do it!
Question yourself....are you gaining lbm? Are you staying the same? Are you losing weight? You simply have to be above maintenance to gain lean mass. It is somehting your body does not want to do, it is an extra load that needs to be maintained by the body. If caloric intake is not sufficient, you have tons of other physical requirements that have to and will be met long before the body ever dreams of building any muscle. If you are not supplying enough nutrients, or barely enough to get these jobs done, you certainly will not build any muscle. -------------- If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.... bb1fit@freetrainers.com |

I read Charlie's post in the general message boards, and he said that you should try out the diet for 2 weeks until you know what to do. I just set this meal plan up and today is my second day. What I was planning on doing was just trying it out like charlie said and see what happens. Really, for me it does seem like a lot of food. There has been a weight gain already, but I'm thinking it's water weight. And as far as feeling as if I'm gaining fat, I do feel so. But I'm hoping it's just my consious. Tried on some old pants today, and they still fit the same way.

You are setting yourself up for nutritional deficiencies with such a limited amount of carbs . You need whole grains and a wide variety of fruits and vegetables.
Adding the right carbs will not make you gain fat. Not eating enough for your body's needs sets you up for fat gain/muscle loss. the opposite of what you are doing. At 16, you are still growing, as well. you need a healthy, nourishing diet, not an extremely low carb regimen. Do you think you have an eating disorder? at 5'8" and 154lbs, I would say you aren't fat. Charlie's post refers to finding your baseline diet and adjusting up or down to meet your goals. At 154lbs, and being young and still growing you need at least 2,300 calories a day. Those calories need to come from lean protein, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy products and good fats like olive oil and nuts. By my estimation you need at least 231g of carbohydrates, split that into 5 meals and you need about 46g of carbs per meal. A baked potato and a green salad, or a cup of oatmeal and some raisins. A cup of brown rice and some vegetables like broccoli or cauliflower. A sandwich on whole wheat bread with lettuce and tomato and 4 ounces turkey... Do your parents eat vegetables? maybe this is a change you could be a catalyst for - imagine how much better the whole family would feel with a healthier diet. -------------- It\'s easier to go down a hill than up it but the view is much better at the top. -Henry Ward Beecher |

I will try to do what you are saying assimmer. Incorporating all of the "good carbs" in throughout the day. I feel awfull when I do eat like a person trying to gain mass should be. I feel like I'll be fat the next day. I don't think I have an eating disorder. I don't really think I am fat either. Although I do have flab around the belly. I think I will try to increase the carbs slowly though and just see how it's going to workout.
Does anybody else see the same thing that man_of_steel sees? I can see my pictures. DX |
