I am 41 years old and want to shed the ole luv handles and belly fat and gain muscle mass. I have a slim build and am not sure which to do first. Shed the fat or is it beneficial to gaining mass and loosing later.

Thanks for the help!

You should shed the bodyfat first so that then you can go on a bulking phase and build clean mass from there. It's tough to build muscle from existing bodyfat...it can be done typically for beginners, but much easier to do with a clean diet and a fresh start. Burn off the fat first, then get you a mass building program and diet and you'll get there.

Fill out your profile and goals and we'll be able to help you out easier. Good luck!

I'd say to do both, meaning start training while eating healthy. There is no reason not to devolop lean mass while losing fat. Try the weight loss and definition program from here, it works.
