I think that by sledgehammer he is refering to leverageing work. Basicly, grab a sledgehammer by the handle, and work it through a range of motion, resisting the pull of the sledge on the end. It works the forearms.
WSSB might be a good program to try. I've had great success modifying the traditional westside routine, and then doing endurance work with "sport specific training" (practices, drilling, and live wrestling).

The best feeling in the world is the feeling you get after a tough set of squats after you step back from the power rack and throw up all over the floor.

by sledgehammer work i was refering to leverag work, that stuff is hard. 8 Lbs isnt much but when its on the end of a 31 inch stick it becomes a great wrist and forearms work out. I was also refering to the good old hammer and tire thing where you hit the tire for two minutes on one minute off or some thing like that. works forearms biceps shoulders triceps pecs,to some extent, abs/obliques upper back hams and helps you get used to really throwing around your body weight and continuing to go on past your normal quiting time because your just to tired.

**add on since theres no edit button that i can find**

befor i started doing sledgehammer work outs twice a week my slapshot really sucked. since then my slapshot had increased greatly. coincidence? possibly, but i like to belive that its because of the hardwork i put in.

If by endurance we are talking endurance on the ice, like aerobic endurance, than the best thing I can suggest for hockey is mixed interval sprinting. HIIT training is more like the type of training you will be doing for hockey, so i would highly recommend it.

Also, not all your conditioning for hockey has to be on the ice. Alot of people forget that and do all their training in a pair of skates and then end up with overuse injuries.
