I recently saw a video of a 1005lb squat. The guy suits up, gets under the bar, unracks, and squats down, missing parallel by a couple of inches, and comes up. I am sitting there thinking, what a shame, all that for nothing, when it becomes apparent that he just got 3 green lights.
In the squat, an inch is a mile, and those last few inches in the hole often make or break a squat. It is not acceptable for a powerlifter to not even REACH parallel let alone break it, and then call it a record breaking squat. If someone wants to see a real 1000lb squat, check out a video of Shane Hammon before he started doing Olympic lifting, or of Captain Kirk when he was still competing. That is deep.
Some people call it a half squat, I call it half a squat. Why not just have a quarter squat or lockout contest?

The best feeling in the world is the feeling you get after a tough set of squats after you step back from the power rack and throw up all over the floor.
