Hi- Im a 27 year old female living in Chicago and I want to train for a marathon. I was hoping to join a group that runs together. Does anyone have any information you can share about joining a group and or timelines for training. This will be my first marathon and I am basically clueless on how to begin. THANKS

Welcome to freetrainers!
Have you checked the net for specific running sites?
How far do you run currently?
I have a great book called the non-runners marathon book, it assumes that before you begin training for the marathon you can run 3 miles.
I may have posted the training schedule from that book before, i will check fit buddy (you could, too) and see what i can find.

this website will be a good reference for you to look at.

Before you decide to train for a marathon, you should at least be able to run a 4 miler every 3 days. Next you will want to take a marathon training schedule, and find out when your marathon is going to be held to know when you should start really training above 4 miles. This will keep you from peaking too early and risking injury.
good luck.

Here are a few more sites that you could do some research on before starting up, good luck. Gangster has some good advice on being able to run 4miles a couple times a week.
I would suggest that you train first for some short 5k runs and work yourself up to marathon level. It can get pretty intense.
