Jimi what r u chattin about? You just said that bench press stunts your growth and free wegihts doesn't....does that mean the barbell is not freeweights???
Weight lifting does not stunt growth!!! It's a myth... some other guys here will tell you that. And at 13....Have some damn fun man and play some sports, forget about bench pressing. -------------- \"Liyytttweighttttttt !!! Nuttin but a peanut..\" Ronnie Coleman |

Ivan, you should stop training your 13 year old for wizard school. You don't want to stunt his growth.

unless it is some kind of freakish training like "Little Hercules" was going thru, I say the more you can train a youngster the better they will be throughout life in general. within reason of course.

These days it's easy to publish a book about anything....even individuals with PhDs are just trying to make some money or achieve some end which doesn't ahve much to do with telling the truth....whenever reading anything you have to ask yourself if it's a 'reputable source'....that is do people/experts in the industr/area about which the person is writing agree or disagree with him/her(diagreement doesn't indicate that the person is wrong but you get a feel about majority opinion....there are organizations that believe that earth revolves around the sun...)...what kind of past does the writer have? what are his goals by/for writing something?...
only very heavy lifting MAY cause stunting of growth....moderate/light lifting should not...in fact moderate lifting will make you stronger, healthier, more intelligent....lift weights in the 12-20 rep region and do compound exercises.....squats, deadlifts, bench presses, rows, pull ups, etc.... at 14....you don't have much credibility jimi...unless you're some sort of a genius or have a lot of proof for your opinion...it's just some random opinions.... have some fun at 13...forget about lifting and enjoy yourself....play sports...and focus on learning correct techniques in each sport...focus on doing well in school... | |

Don't let Menace B/S you jimi. The earth is flat and the sun does revolve around the sun. I can send you membership papers to the flat earth socicety if you want them. I was bench pressing when I was 12 and I'm only 4 feet tall now.

And I met this kid named Harry... Cotter? Was that his last name? Cotter... hhhmmm... doesn't sound quite right... anyway.. he had this scar on his chin? Chin...? Not sure if that's right either... anyway... he told me he could fly on brooms.

SO does bench pressing really stunt ur growth? I started at 15 and now I'm 16 and 5"8 and still growing. I dunno if I was going through a growth spurt at the time but When I started to going gym I grew much faster than before. I dunno if this is a coincidnece. Anyways I dnt think there is really any scientific proof that this is right or wrong. Nothing shld really stunt ur growth unless u damage ur growth plates some how. But smoking at an early age will stunt ur growth.-------------- \"Liyytttweighttttttt !!! Nuttin but a peanut..\" Ronnie Coleman |

wow. You have a theory. Despite the fact, that almost everything you have said on this thread to date would be taken as complete bs by anyone that understands weight training and physiology, I think that YOU should publish a book listing you theory.

Jimi1105: What was the point in sending me a PM with this?
"Hey if you've got something to embarrass me on say it to my face." I did say it to your face. I am not afraid to call out BS when I see it. And if I read it on here, I am not afraid to call it out in front of everyone... Go to the powerlifting forum, and read gatormades post on professional advice. I do the same thing. If you are going to post bs advice that you cant back up, then you better be ready to back it up, because I WILL call you out on it... I have done it before, in many other posts, and I will continue to do it. I try to ensure that the people looking for advice, can always get REAL advice... Next time, think before you post, and I won't have to say anything, to your face, and in front of everyone. -------------- Your two most important minerals: Iron and Chalk. jimi1105: I don't think you should be giving any advice to anyone you look like a gay swedish model
what was the point of that one. most people usually appreciate the advice. I have been trying to help people on this site for some time now, yourself included, as i seem to remember responding to a few of your other posts and questions. If you have a problem with any of the advice i give, come straight out and say it, i have no problem backing up everything i say. I am always up for debating my stances. however, you really need to grow up if thats the best response you can think of. -------------- Your two most important minerals: Iron and Chalk. when I was 13 I was only 4'9' 100lb and couldn't bench 80lb...my height was caused by genetics...lol
Now, I believe that you should be able to bench your own weight. AND why are you dioing reps of 100??? try 3 sets of 10 and see how heavier you can go. |

ur 13 and bench 135? I really dont know but that sounds very hard to believe...still. Im almost 15 and benching a good solid 100 pounds. Honestly, 100 pounds isnt to bad people. Dont push yourself to hard. You can hurt your body.

Why are you trying to rip on someone for only benching 100. Not everyone is as naturally gifted and had to work to get where they are.
100 pounds at 13 with a low weight isn't bad at all. Personally I think you're a bit full of it with how much you keep talking about how much you can bench. I think you're trying to make yourself believe you can actually do it. |

ok... here is my take.... it is nice to know so you can see where people have been and where they are now. BUT..... who really cares? I mean if I am in the gym with 2 friends who cares who benches more. If I am going my max and they are going theirs then why not cheer eachother on? So I may not bench as much as mutt, but I KNOW that if we were working out together he would pat me on the back when I benched my max just as I would him. -------------- My Catahoula did it.
