What about these new products to cleanse the intestines and get rid of toxin build up? Has anybody tried anything?

No but I read a book all about cleaning oout toxins. It talked about juice fasts, and said the juice should be from fresh fruits and vegetables, not prepackaged. I was pretty surprised about the whole theory. I have not tried it yet, but would be interested to know if anyone else has.

I don't know about any of the "colon cleanse" type detox but a fruit juice fast, or any fast for that matter is very bad for you. First of all, detoxifying the body is why we have a liver and kidneys. That's what they do. Going on a juice detox will only depleate your body of vital nutrients. Yes there are carbs and a small amout of vitamins in juice but the carbs are all simple or sugar carbs. Every time you drink juice your insulin levels will spike and crash leaving you feeling like crap and hungry. You do not need to detoxify your body. We have organs for that.

I know what you are saying michelle9510 but the body was not meant to take in all the toxins from the preservatives and chemical farming methods used today. The detox I read about wasn't just fruit juice, it was veggies as well. Im not recommending it to anyone, I was just curious if anyone had tried it. Thank you for answering and the information.

I think there's a very cheap product to do it and better than juice....

TEA

I like to buy tea leaves and brew a very dark tea...then drink that......no sugar...no anything....straight up....

you can make a canteen of it and drink it throughout the whole day....the flouride in the tea is really good for your teeth(although it will obviously discolor your teeth...so brush them thoroughly)....and the caffein will suppress your appetite a bit and give you boosted energy....as well as provide plenty of polyphenols....

I like a very very strong brewed tea....brew it to preference....obviously the stronger the brew...the more it will have of everything...including the caffeine so be careful...

There is a ancient method to cleanse your lower bowels...called a enema.

I didn't mean to jump down anyone's throat. sorry if I offended. It's just that as a nurse, I've seen a few people hurt themselves trying to do the so called "detox diets"

I didn't take any offense. It's good to hear all sides. I guess now I will do an enema with tea. --->:big_smile:

michelle I give same exact reasons for why I am not a fan of 'detox' fasts(depleted carb stores, loss of muscle, lack of energy, etc).....However, I love to drink dark brewed tea daily for it's many benefits .....and if they decide to do it...I think tea is better than juices or water.....

I know this is a somewhat old post, but I had a question on the detox thing. My kidney, liver and gall bladder don't function properly. My mom is always telling me to do "detox" diets for 2 or 3 days. I never have, but does anyone know(maybe michelle?) what I can use to help out my organs since they don't completely do what they are supposed to??

Take vitamins and watch what you eat and consult a doctor for gods sake!

Ha ha ha....if I hadn't consulted a doctor how would I know they don't function properly? LOL....sorry, in all seriousness, I found out about the problems with them a few years ago, and since then haven't had health insurance, so getting a doctor perscribed anything hasn't been an option. We have HI now, but are still in the process of finding a doctor that is accepting new patients.

I take vitamins, I watch what I eat, was just looking for something to help out in the in between time.

I read that as well, but it conflicts with the gall bladder problem...it can cause my gall bladder to flush out stones, and you have to know if the stones are small enough to pass which I don't. I would hate to get a stone lodged in my intestine or something because it was to big to actually pass. Yeeks!

Maybe try eating certified organic. There is no preservatives or chemicals used in the farming.

I may have to look that direction. Right now I think they only certified organic food that we eat is spinach. I'll have to check into that.
