I'm new to the board and I had a few questions about the right way to lose weight. Right now I'm about 6'2, 319 lbs. Last year I weighed over 350 lbs. and I lost a little weight by limiting my caloric intake to under 1200 calories a day but not really changing my excercise habits. I registered on the board and my nutritional plan tells me that I need to take in around 4500 calories!!?? Is this correct? Ideally, my goal is to in a 6-8 month period drop about 100 lbs and attain maximum muscle gain. I'm open to any reccomendations. I feel like I'm actually going to do it this time but I want to do it the right way. Any reccomendations for excercise plans, nutritional intake, and any additional supplements that will aid me in reaching my goals will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to FT.
First, I want to congratulate you on the weight loss so far.
Secondly, please fill out your profile so we can learn more about you.
Yes, you need to eat to lose weight. If you don't, your body will hang on to all you take in and make you overweight. Eat five or six smaller meals a day. The number you have may be a little high... not sure, but others here have more knowledge about that than I do. Weight loss will be slower than most people want. On average a couple pounds a week can be expected, more at first, but it should level off. So, ya, your goal is attainable.
Check out the diet thread of the boards and grab the grocery list. If it's not on there, don't eat it. Drink lots of water.
Also, grab a fitness routine from FT. They are free and they work as long as YOU do.
Lastly, the fat loss and muscle gain is a combination of good diet and exercise.
Welcome to FT!
