as a media member, i am going to have to stay in houston and ride this thing out. fortunately, i will be in a strong, multi-story building with a rig-sized generator and plenty of food and water. i don't think there are too many houstonians on the board, but if you're still here, leave immediately. we're in for a doozy.

Keep your head down howdi... That building you're in might have been built for a CAT 5 storm but the glass in those windows weren't. Not to mention that the wind actually increases around those tall buildings. Found out about that during Hugo in Charleston. My daughter lives just outside Houston and they left early this morning. Should get to my place in the morning sometime.

well the hurricane missed us, but not beaumont and port arthur. sad for them. too bad no one was frantically telling them to evacuate. we still got high winds and some damage, but my home is fine. in fact, it never even lost electricity. the pandemonium that preceded this was unlike any i have ever seen. i'm sure we won't have an adequate fuel supply for a few days. today a man was waving a gun on i-45 trying to cut in line where a fuel tanker had managed to deliver gas. i'm glad i'm living in such a peaceful city. on the bright side, i still have 7/8 of a tank so it's something i don't have to worry about. i do, however, have to worry about getting nearly all of my posessions back to my home. currently they're northeast of houston where the damage was decidedly worse than what my own residence sustained. sigh. thank you for all the thoughts and prayers. hopefully this is our allotment for the hurricane season.

Glad y'all dodged that bullet Howdie. It sure was scarey watching that thing unfold. I've been in the eye of 4 different hurricanes and I will run to Kansas next time one comes at me. Hang in there kiddo.

Howdie...good to hear you're Ok. I'm up here in Dallas and knew several people that were stuck in the 10-18 hour drive to get up here. It got so bad toward the end of last week that anyone that lived south of Dallas and worked in Dallas was calling in sick cause the congestion on and around 45.
Hopefully the season is over, but if it's not then feel free to head north, us Dallasites are happy to help out!
