How good is constant change?

Hello,

I have a question about changes in a routine. I am doing okay with my current split: Tuesday: Chest and bi's, Thursday: Back and Tri's, and Saturday: Legs and shoulders.

I have been weight training for about 8 months now; I pretty much stick to my routine and change it after 8-12 weeks, but during the past couple of weeks, I have been constantly changing exercises.

For example, my normal triceps routine is skullcrushers, one arm dumbbell extension, rope pull downs, and one arm pull-downs. The next week I would do close grip bench, one arm dumbbell extension, standing overhead rope pull, and dips (on the machine). The next week I would do skullcrushers, two-hand dumbbell extension, tricep pushdowns, and one arm pull-downs.

I go by how I feel that week and I do this for almost all my muscle groups.

QUESTION: Is it beneficial for constant changes (weekly) or is it better to stick with the 8-12 week cycle before change is made? I can't tell what's better for my body .

Thanks guys...

I usually stick with the same thing for multiple weeks. Once I get bored with something or find it may not be working anymore... or maybe it becomes too easy. In that instance add weight or change the exercise.

I'm not so sure it really matters if you change weekly or not. It would certainly keep your body guessing.

I tweak my workouts when I get stale with them. As long as you are progressing, weights going up, feel good, feel like you are gaining/losing, then there really is no need to change.

I think we all have a foundation split that works best for us. On the other hand, the following applies to it.

My philosophy is do not fix what isn't broken. On the other hand, if you are stale in your workout, then it is time for a change, and simple exercise changes within the confines of your current routine will work fine. But in this case, change is needed and is good.
