Hi, My name's Mark Varte. I joined ft about 2/3 months back and have been following the programs since then. I am very happy with the results and have never felt better my whole life. I have never done this type of training before. I play soccer and have always felt ok with the practise sessions but this has even improved my strength and endurance even more than I could imagine. Thanks to all the people at ft.
I just have a few questions about my diet. Coming from India, some of the diets and supplements are not readily available here (or maybe the brand names are different here). My main diet is as follows: Tea and bread (breakfast) at 10:30 am; cooked/boiled rice, fried potatoes and salad (lunch) at 1pm; tea and biscuits at 3:00 pm; rice, potatoes/smoked pork/chicken curry (dinner) at 8:30pm. Is is bad? Can you help?
Thank you somuch for all the advices and help the site had offered me. I have some more questions regarding workout but I guess I'll save that for later :)
Mark

I think that sounds pretty good, except perhaps from fried things and biscuits!

is vegetable curries ok? Are spices harmful? Also i had contracted a cold a couple of days ago and the medications are making me drowsy. Is it ok to keep going? Thanks for the suggestion. I will surely try it from today. PLus I'll skip afternoon tea and biscuits altogether.

I think vegetable curries are fine and from what I 've heard, spices can be good for you - I think they are very high in antioxidants. If you are drowsy and ill, don't train too hard because your body will need the energy to recover.

thank you so much kalanchoe. Can I just ask one more question? I have difficiluty working out specific areas like my back and shoulders. I follow the instruction carefully but still I find these areas not worked out as I thought. Am I getting too much ahead of myself or is there something I'm doing wrong? I print out the exercises everyday and take them to the gym. Is it because I work with heavier weights than I'm supposed to? Shall I try with lighter weights? My gym is very crowded and the instructor does not have time to spot my every sets.

I suppose that would depend on the type of exercise you are doing, how heavy the weights are, how many repetitions you do and what you hope to achieve. Do you want to get big muscles? a toned look? Or is your goal weight loss?
For a rule of thumb, if you want to gain big muscles, I think that you should do 3 sets of 8 repetitions. On each 'lift', you should be doing it slowly, ie, taking 2 seconds to lift the weight, 4 to bring it down. If this doesn't feel difficult, or if you do more than 8 then the weights need to be heavier. If you feel really exhausted, like you couldn't lift a feather, then it's done the trick!
However, I am no expert! For better advice, I would suggest asking the moderators - I wouldn't want to tell you the wrong thing!
