I've been working out non stop for the last few months and have noticed some nice gains in my overall appearance, but I am naturally a pretty skinny guy with not much natural muscle. I'm 5'9 and 155lbs, however I seem to look bigger than my weight. My problem, I dont know what I would consider myself. Skinny, toned, cut, average.... I can't figure out at what point I'll consider myself "cut". I figured once I hit 170 lbs I should look pretty damn big for my body structure.

You should have a good look at yourself, measure stuff, etc. every 6 weeks. Do it more regularly and you might not see the change.

I need to pick up more weight. I've actually lost weight since working out, mainly all fat, and have toned up quite a bit, but I'm not gaining like I should. I'm going to start eating a LOT more than I am now. I eat 5 times a day as is, but need to force myself to eat more during those times I guess.

it really depends on your goals man. I don't consider someone big unless they have 18inch arms and low body fat, but that's my personal goal, so that's the reason I think of that as big. I believe in a well balanced build as well.

'My problem, I dont know what I would consider myself. Skinny, toned, cut, average.... I can't figure out at what point I'll consider myself "cut". '
let me sum up my point: who the F* cares? seriously who cares? I may have gained 70lb and inches to the body, 100s of lb to my lifts? and? I care only to the extent that it helps me keep motivated, become healthier and track my progress....I could give a sh*t about whether I am 'big' or not although others constantly make that point ....thinking they are being nice or clever or some other reason....you really need to do some evaluation of why you're lifting....vanity is a poor motivator imo...and gets lost easily with time....

Everyone has a opinion about big....i'm a pretty big guy...but i'm not "cut" ....so in gangster eyes.....i'm not. Who cares, cause those guys in mags aren't real.....thats not natural big.-------------- Friends don't let friends squat high... People don't reach thier true potental, only those who seek it. |

You want to know when I consider myself big... The other day, I walk in the gym. I have a broken foot, so I have been focusing on upper body lifting, and today was bench day. There's not a single bench available. So I walk up to the two biggest guys there, benching 225, and ask if I can work in with them. These guys were easily 230+, and I'm doing sets with them @ 140lbs. Thats when I consider myself big.-------------- The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over. ~~~Hunter S. those times are awesome wrestler...lol....I love working in with some tough looking guys..thinking they are the sh*t at 50lb more than me...bounching 225 for like 4-8 reps....then I walk in and warm up with that weight....or see their face expressions when i deadlift.....I have hard several times someone ask this trainer at my gym how they can get like me or that I am so much stronger than I look....those are awesome motivators for me...I just push myself that much harder.....it's a great compliment to be noticed....but not much in themselves....

lol same here. its fun to lump on the leg press, and have people stop there workouts to watch you do your set. especially when you have little stick legs like i do, and your pounding more weight for sets than most of the guys a good 50 lbs + could even do for a 1RM.

i dont know bropie... i'm never impressed that much by the guy on the leg press. now pick the leg press up, put it on your back, and squat with it... then you'll have my attention.-------------- The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over. ~~~Hunter S. You took that wrong andrew. I was simply saying that when your cut you appear larger which just happens to be my goal. Much like the thread on gymnists floating around on the forum.

exactly wrestler....i point and laugh at people quarter repping G on leg press.....I did over a G for reps when I barely could do 315 on squat....not very impressive(btw not a shot at u bropie...)
I think this is why people underestimate my strength level or call me a 'big' guy...I have low body fat so that I don't have that big bulk to show my strength but yet have enough muscle show through so that I look somewhat big....

i look like the 135lb kid that doesn't belong in the weight room. in fact, if i saw me in the weight room with 3 plates on the bar in the squat rack, id be worried too.

I figure I'll be big when they have to open the double doors for me to get into the gym. Figure I got about 20-25 years before that happens though.

Yea my leg press draws attention with 1400lb on the plat....and thats after 5 sets......big whoop? ohhh ahh? Maybe those legs wouldn't be skinny, if you got in the squat rack? BEt you my next pay check you do bench press free weights......yet you don't squat? So sad so very very sad..
And what ar eyour gaols? a big leg press? Funny thing is if thats your goal.....then you need to squat....cause I might MIGHT do leg press 1 time ever 3 months or so.....just for a change.....and i can still hit 1400 for 4 5 reps....no hands on knees, no belt, back flat....with no knee wraps. My goal is a big squat which = big leg press. -------------- Friends don't let friends squat high... People don't reach thier true potental, only those who seek it. |
