Hey guys/Gals! ben a real long time since I showed my face here, I was relocated to Turkey a year ago, wow culture shock! Anyways, to my question/observation.
I have a heavy cardio routine that I do twice a week and I noticed in the past that I would be CRAZY hungry after it, I could eat twice as much food at lunch (I do the work out during my lunch hour) than a normal day, I might even still be hungry.
I had a Gatoraid once during the workout because I forgot my water and all they had in the machine was Gatoraid, so that is what I drank. Wow! no apitie! Now, I am drinking a Gatoraid during the workout, I have two ahot breaks and I down a 16 ounce between them, with a little left for a post-workout drink.
If I do this, I will eat a normal lunch perhaps a touch more, but not close to double. Why is this? I would assume this is good, just would like to find out some of the science behind this!

When you exercise, you draw energy from a few sources, one of which during long-term exercise, is glycogen. This is basically stored sugar in the muscles and is depleted during continuous movement. The gatorade is repleneshing your glycogen stores; unfortunately it's with cheap synthetic processed sugar and carbohydrates. So instead of being glycogen "depleted" after a workout and hungry, you feel more satiated, only to feel hungry shortly after eating.
Adequate water intake should provide the same results, just add a pinch of sea salt for every 32 ounces. This will also help with your electrolyte balance and gives the water some taste. Personally I use a tiny bit of non-bleached organic sea salt, purified water and organic lemons to add to the taste since I WAS a huge sugar/pop junkie and this seems to help ween people off sugary drinks.

Ok, yeah, that makes sense, I guess there is a second part to my question. By drinking the gatoraid am i causing my body to *not* burn fat? I understand there are many other drinks that are better out there, I like water, it just did not seem to curb the massive appetiate that my workout sparks. The Sea salt sound interesting, I will see if they are avaiable in my area (many things are not)and if they help curb the appetite.

Any high amounts of sugar (reguardless of its source) will have a negative effect on fat burning.
