just lettin the the FT crew that i did my first gig on thursday, it went well, surprisingly...
...it was a college gig, as part of the course. i had been playing bass in all the practices cos there was a serious lack of bass players and i dabble in the ol' 4 string. so anyway, it came to thursday and our final practice before the gig, but the vocalist and lead guitarist want there, turns out he left college for good, but didnt tell us anything about it... thanks alot john. so i thought, screw this im not gonna let this be a crappy first gig, so i stepped forward to be the new frontman and then went on to poo my pants. i realised afterwards that i have never sang solo infront of anyone before, so this was a pretty big step. luckily the first song was an improvised 12 bar blues jam which had no vocal content, and the second was 'hey joe', which i thought, yeah, i know the words to that. turns out when i came to sing i only new about three lines, so i just threw in a bunch of improvised lines and three solos, haha, it got a good response though, and was a success, hurrah etc. so im glad i was forced into being frontman, it cut out me being nervous cos i had no time to be. its one of the best things ive ever done and i cant wait for the next one.

Be sure it'snot just your recent deafness that makes you think it was a good gig. Congrats young-un. Feels good doesn't it?

I've mostly played in "unplugged" or lightly amplified situations. Even in the larger gigs, when the house provides the sound systems we're behind the the speakers and using moniters to hear. Maybe you need better equipment or different music. I lost partial hearing from big guns in the navy. It came back after 3 or 4 years. I know it's no fun.

yeah, we practice in these little air tight sound proof booths, and i didnt realise how loud it was so i didnt wear earplugs for about a month, then i realised how bad my ears had got. i invested in some seriously expensive ear plugs, or filters as they call them. im being so careful from now on.
