Hello! I have tried to read through the great posts on the message boards to find this info, but after learning alot about different things, I figured just asking would get me the answer I needed.

I work out around 5:30am 5 days a week (3 weight training, 2 cardio). On my weight training days, I have a protein shake with skim milk ON THE WAY to the gym. When I get home an hour or so later, I have my breakfast (oatmeal/cream of wheat, usually).
By doing this, am I getting any benefit from the protein shake, as far as muscle building is concerned?

Also, (since my goals are to "lose weight and tone up" (lose fat and build muscle, really)), by having the protein/milk shake immediately before my morning workout and then eating my actual breakfast after the workout, am I "doubling up" on my breakfast meals? I thought I read somewhere that making the shake with milk makes it like a meal replacement...

In case it helps anyone get me answer, my daily calorie intake is around 1400

Before I train at 6am, I drink a protein shake with water, glutimine, creatine, e-mergency, mircles greens and probiotics. This fuels my work-out and helps with weight lose when need. Then when I return home I make my recover meal which is 1 whole egg, 5 egg whites and oatmeal. (!/2 cup dry) and take the rest of my vitamins. I then continue to eat evey three hours. 25-40gr Carb, 30grm protein and little unsaturated fat. I do not eat carbs at dinner because I'm getting ready to retire for the evening abd don't need any more fuel to keep me going. I eat about 1600 or so calories a day, on Sundays I relax and do not look at the clock.
Hope that helps. On the site they have a great list of healthy foods to choose from, so putting together a diet is easier.

try to take your protein shake an hour before hand and eat within a half hour afterwards. eatin 1 hr before puts your body in an anabolic state i believe and you must eat within 30min of weights hittin the floor because that is when your body needs nutrients the most. i might be wrong, but chances are others will agree with me.

zenkei...you can actually...that is how people who haven't lost any weight per se, yet their measurements drop and their pant size drops. Body fat is lost and muscle is built thus changing the composition of one's body.
