Hello everyone, Im Walmart Security, new to the forums here. I have a question. I signed up for the fitness plan and I need to know what a repitition is, Is it lifting a weight up and down 5 times and pausing for a few seconds or is it just going up and down once?

One rep = one movement (up or down)

If you're doing curls, One rep is up then down. If you're counting five as a rep and your set calls for 12 reps, You're going to be doing 60 reps. That doesn't work unless you're lifting 5 lbs.

Alright, I understand that 5 reps actually equals 60 if my set calls for 12 and im counting 5 as a rep, but I dont understand a couple of things. One-What doesnt work unless i'm lifting 5 pounds and why wouldnt it work anyway?

I'd suggest you read up in the Exercise Resources tab at the top of the page.

5 reps is going down and up, 5 times. Simple as that. No other movements. Going down, pausing, and then coming up is still one repetition.

Yes I realize my shins are bleeding. And its called a deadlift. Any other questions???

If you smoke or don’t wear your seatbelt, please don’t tell me the deadlift is dangerous.

Sorry Mutt and Mike, I kinda worded my previous post wrong. But nevermind now, I think i get the idea. Lets say I'm benching, and i do 15 full movements (up and down 15 times) with the bar, then that would equal 15 reps? and If i'm curling and I do 75 full movements then its really 15 reps? Please correct me if i'm wrong and im sorry If i worded this post bad also.

Why would curls be any different than any other lift??? 5 full movements are 5 full repetitions.

A rep is this: bench: lay down on you back. Lift bar off of rack so your arms are extended. Lower the weight till it touches your chest extend back up, that is one rep
Curls: grasp barbell palms facing up, about shoulder width apart. Curl bar up till the biceps are contracted. Lower to starting point, that is one rep.
