I read that doing high reps all the time is a little old school. I was going to modify my work out by doing one week of very heavy sets like doing only 4 reps but with max weight and then the next week go back to normal reps like 12-8-6-4 that is an example of a normal set.
Is this a good idea to do?

For those asking, this would be alternating periodization....
That said, it would be better than high reps all the time.
Although this is the first post I have read by you, I can tell a few things. You are learning, you are asking questions, and most importantly, " I was going to modify my work out", you are experimenting and experiancing. You are implementing something without waiting for someone to explain it for you and spoon feed it to you, and you are thinking on your own. I commend you for this.

atmasters just about everything works for a while...and just about anything that is new for the body will work to a degree....you can change reps every workout if you so desire...I sometimes do reps based on how I feel....and sometimes I do both very low and sometimes very high...sometimes I do high rep work first and sometimes I do it after low rep work...and by high rep work I mean 15+ reps....also what may work for us may not work for you and vice versa so experiment...

This would be undulating periodization based around cyberkinetic periodization.
