Hi :), i just started working out at the gym and i'm really not sure about my diet. I'm very thin and tall already, i weigh 56kg and i'm 1,74m tall. All i really want is to gain some muscle and get really toned, but not bulky or anything. I am really unsure about my diet though. At first i thought that a diet were i lose fat and gain muscle at the same time would be right for me but now i'm really unsure. I feel if i would lose fat i will end up looking like a skeleton. Should i maybe gain some muscle first and then lose some fat to the extend i feel comfertable with? Or will i look fine if i lose some weight and gain muscle at the same time? Please help me i really dont know what to do :(

A diet is simply a meal plan. Someone who eats Twinkies all day follows a diet based on Twinkies. Doesn't mean its good. Diet has the connotation of something that will make you lose weight.
Protect your muscle. Eat at least 1g of protein per pound of body weight. Being female, you won't get bulky (you lack the testosterone that builds mass), so you don't have to worry about going light on the intensity of weights.
Building muscle requires energy. Maintaining muscle requires energy. You'll burn calories (energy) by weight training. I'd stick with weight training on a slightly reduced calories intake than normal as you need some sort of calorie deficit to burn fat (calories out > calories in).

Wait, are you trying to lose weight, or change your body composition (decrease body fat percentage without losing weight)?

I'm not trying to put you off but one of the best things you can do starting toward your goals is educate yourself. I'm putting links at the bottom of those post that all go to sticky posts in several of our forums here on FT. There's some fairly lengthy reason but they should help a lot.
