I have just started a weightlifting program and am really sore. I think this is normal, but was wondering what the best way to treat the soreness. Also does anyone have any advice on the best supplements you can get to pack on weight and muscles.

Stay hydrated, stretch well after your workout. If really bad the occasional NSAID (aspirin) will help

I revel in the soreness I feel I had a great workout if the next day my muscles ache...crazy, I know.

Welcome to the site, eerlover!! Please fill out your profile so we can help you better.

As lonegirl mentioned, drink plenty of water and stretch. Stretch before bed and when you wake up. It hurts sometimes but it helps. A light jog can help get the blood flowing, too.

As for supplements..... don't get me started. If you just started training, supplement your diet with MORE FOOD AND WATER! That's all!!! A good multivitamin/mineral is a must, but I don't count that as a supplement; it's part of my breakfast. Once you get a good solid routine down (that could take weeks to months), you can examine where you're lacking and make up for it with more food and/or a nutritional supplement. There is no supplement in the world that can replace the combination of hard work in the gym and good eating habits.

Best of luck to you!

I like the idea that comes with doing pilates... stretch after every muscle group - it feels good and since I have just started my workouts, I have not been sore... I think this would work for any workout.

I will add though to make sure when you stretch you are warmed up already...walk around a bit, do a couple jumping jacks ....DO NOT Stretch cold muscles...this can cause injury. Think of an elastic band just out of a freezer...you pull on it and it breaks...same thing with muscles...you can tear and injure muscles if not warmed up first
