Well, this has been beat to death. But, a bit of an answer. The body can and will use 1 gr., or 70 gr., depending on what is needed.
It depends alot on what you eat with the protein. The body will do what is needed to "restore order" first and foremost.
This is glucose restoration for instance. Glucose is used by the brain, liver, as well as muscles. The brain will of course get first dibs. This is why it matters so much to take in a balance of nutrients when trying to gain mass, so protein can be utilized hopefully in metabolic pathways leading to muscle developement.
The body is very adept at using nutrients "as needed". Protein is broken down and utilized for glycogen at a fairly high rate if needed, believe off hand a bit above 50%. So, how much protein can be utilized is a loaded question at best.
