So I'm in my FYE class today, and our guest speaker is the head specialist from the student health center. He's talking to us about diet and nutrition. Now my specialty is training, but I do have a fair amount of experiance in the area of nutrition. Now this guy said some of the most rediculus things I have heard.
For example, he went over the use of vitamins, and he was discussing how they only need to be taken once every 3-4 days, because your body will store it. I ask him as to the storage times of water soluble vitamins and he doesn't have a clue what I mean. For the uninitiated, water soluble vitamins, vit c for example, has a storage life of 4-8 hours in your body.
He talks about cutting out fats in your diet as a method of weight loss. I don't think I have EVER recommended cutting fat out fat disproportionately.
A banana is the best thing you can have before bed?
Athletes have no need for extra protein in the diet?
Are you serious? I hate how someone so undeducated can proclaim to be an expert and spread his word, while my classmates just nod in agreement. How can someone go around preaching while they have clearly have no idea what they are talking about?
If you are going to proclaim your word as true, than you better take the time to make sure it is.

When I went through my PT affiliation, I had to really watch my P's and Q's. These folks were so out of touch with nuitrition, I just wanted many times to jump up and scream, you guys suck! But, I wanted to pass, so I bit my lip.

They are all going by the gov't guidelines, which are way off and influenced by the different food giants.
I am not sure why everyone is so afraid to challenge the gov't guidelines. It doesn't make sense.

Would this article explain it? http://www.mercola.com/2006/feb/9/the_us_fat_economy.htm
A lot of money in fattening foods...even more in weight loss and diet plans. Wouldn't be surprised if this was one of the largest lobbying groups in Washington D.C.. Sort of like the situation with companies that make Virus Scan software, also making Viruses to keep themselves in business.
