I was wondering what you guys think about doing 5x5 and working out each muscle group twice a week rather than 3x10 and working out them once a week. Anyone do this or could give me some advice? Thanks David

5x5 is effective for building strength. I would not do it more than once a week for the big lifts. I would generally avoid training same muscle group twice a week...

Is there a reason why you would avoid training more than once a week?

It will generally lead to overtraining...

If for instance you do 5x5 just bench on monday....then 5x5 bench on say fri that might be ok. I wouldn't do it any longer than say 4 5 weeks.

I really like a 5x5, and do it personally on one chosen compound lift for that chosen bodypart, the next session for that muscle I do something different.
I particularly like a 4X6, seems to be a good rep range. Anyway it goes, I change it when I can complete a 5x5, I go to 4x6, then a new 5x5.

thanks for the responses, I am looking to put on mass that is my main goal but this seems more like a strength training routine but if your getting stronger you will probably be putting on mass also? Am I right or no?

Not always.....if you have normally been doing 12-6 reps....it might just cause its different stimuli. But mass again comes from what you eat.
