Is it just me or does having the United Arab Emirates watch 6 of our largest ports sound like a very bad idea-------------- Every man hears only what he understands -Goethe |

Funny BA
Here's my take on it though. Do I have concerns about this deal? Yes...however I can honestly say I would have issues with any new company taking over such a large operation whether it be a US based organization or abroad. I would as well expect a complete investigation of the money trail of any company to confirm there are no ties to terrorist or militant organizations. However we need to consider that if we're looking for Democracy and Capitalism to take hold around the world then why would we care where it's from. If we say "No you can't make this deal because we don't like your country" then aren't we essentially going against our inevitable idea of the goal of free trade. Not to mention I believe this is a private organization selling to another private organization...so I don't know if I feel comfortable with the government stepping in on the transaction. That's not a precedent we want to set. Don't get me wrong I would prefer to see an American Company take this over, just for the simple impact to the economy in the long run. However I think we need to keep the bigger picture in mind. Just as well the National Guard will be handling security as they do today...not the UAE. So essentially nothing more will be at risk then it is today. My only main concern is shipping prices and if the underlying purpose of this is so the UAE can actually hinder trade outside of the country if they're able to set the Shipping cost. Which I presume would be closely monitored and there would be securities in place for this as well. That's my take...seems like information on this transaction is fairly limited and sketchy so I'm waiting for the rest of the facts to come out about it. What's humurous is Dubai is sending delegates to meet with people like Hillary Clinton and the likes to discuss this with them. What does she have to do with the price of tea in China (or the shipping ports for that fact)? Especially after her husband sold 17 fighter jets to the UAE in the mid 90's. |

The most ignorant thing is that our elected officials are mostly crooks who ignore the will of the people and the people keep electing them.-------------- Sometimes life is like herding cats. Charlie

So what you're saying is the people are ignorant?
Unfortunately the mentality of elections now a days is the lesser of two evils. Elections come down to choice 1 or choice 2 and choice 3-10 rarely have a chance, because our nomination and fund raising processes are built around a 2 party system, which wasn't what our founding fathers had in mind. The sooner people realize this then the sooner we can get back to our roots. However I don't think this particular issue comes down to politics. It's simply a argument of reason...which is rare in today's age. I have no doubt that it'll turn into a political issue within a few days as the talking points of both side come out, but on the surface this issue isn't as simple as Republican or Democrat and could be the start of a breaking point for 1 or both parties. ::steps down from soapbox:: I am very interested in seeing other viewpoints of this topic though...lets keep discussing. I'll share some of the research I find on the topic tomorrow. |

comes down to money...if you have it .. you win....if you don't.. you don't. Same way with bills and other decesions in congress. Vote for mine I vote for yours...or i vote against you. Thats why nothing every good every comes out of congress.
I mean they need to be running the country...what are they doing? Worrying about the steriod use in MLB? WTF? Who cares...if they wanna go ahead . I'd kinda liek to see a roided up 300lb pitcher or 400lb guy cranking out home runs...be more exciting than watching guys scratch thier nuts and spitting all game. Butthey are worried kids will "look up to them" and do the things they do. Well if they do....thats the parents falt then. Parent need to distill values in their kids instead of letting the tv do it for them. Everyone wants to point a finger at somone...when the person they should be pointing at is themselves....same for law makers. When Katrina hit....democrates pointed at reblicans, then they pointed at fema and the ceo or whatever....spent 3 months bitching back at forth who's to blame.....who cares? get off your ass and do somthing about it. -------------- Get your bicep curling, cut off shirt, matching workout outfit wearing, flexing in mirror "toned" wanna-be ass , out of my squat rack! The government owns us all....doesn't matter whether you're a Democrat or a Republican. Essentially we have no free will as how we vote. Having two true choices of the same thing is no choice at all....
Having UAE run our ports is awesome idea...especially considering...\/ http://in.rediff.com/news/2004/mar/25osama.htm perhaps we can get hussein in charge of our defense....

You know it is really bad when your 13 year old daughter asks if there the Arab's are going to attack us again and we are going to have an all out war with them. How the hell do you answer that with consolation for your child?
All I can do is shake my head... There are alot of negative bad things that happen within our country from actions executed from our government and own society, but there are also a ton of great things we take for granted soo much because we're blinded by all the negativity, so many foreigners i always hear saying we have no idea how much better it is here than anywhere else. If you don't like the way the Gov. does things, you can a few things. 1. nothing, 2. try and change it , 3. HIT THE ROAD!
