muscle to fat ratio

I was wondering whats the ratios for muscle. How much fat does one pound of muscle, if your active?

i dont think i understand either......one pound of muscle has zero fat in it and one pound of fat has zero muscle in it. if you want to know what percentage of your body should be muscle and what percentage should be fat if you are active i beleive it is like 7-10 percent fat for men and somewhere higher for women. that is for athletes i beleive.

yes i did word it wrong, lol what i meant was how much fat is burnt by one pound of muscle, and does this number double per added pound? That is if the question can even be answered lol

A pound increase in muscle mass can increase calorific energy consumption fro 15-50 calories depending on the muscles usage. Fat does not account for all of these calories though.
A pound of fat is about 3500 calories.

The metabolic increase is about 6% or thereabouts...very close.

well is there a was to just target the calories in fat cells instead of everything else?

By decreasing calories in a sensible manner, with adequate nutrition to feed muscle, you basically are doing this. It is not of course 100%, but we can hope so and get it close.

do you think metabolic supplements like "redline" which is a thermogenic supplement actually help at all or is it just wasted money?

These usually exert their best benefits when somewhat lean. This may also be because it is of course more visible if you are lean to lose 1/2% of bodyfat as compared to when heavy and lose 3%.

Some of these can help, but in my opinion not the extent advertised(surprised?? LOL), and if you do use them, probably best to cycle them. (there is a point of diminishing returns to anything)

heh yea my buddy got a bottle of this redline stuff and on the back in bright yello letters it says " do not use this product if you are more than 15 lbs overweight." This all just seems soo overwhelming, with the diest and what to do and not to do and what not. I'm actually worried about starting all this stuff because i DON'T know what i'm doin at all and i'm a little lost because it's been years since i've done anything fitness related

You really don't need to make it that difficult, because it is not. Simply exert more energy than you take in on a daily basis as often as you can. Keep the protein up to feed muscle, and you will be fine.

well my goal is to become a bodybuilder, and competetive lifter. but i want to own a gym hopefully in the next 15 years. ok thanx mojo i'll look for it

Do you want to become a successful bodybuilder OR a successful powerlifter. I urge you to make the distinction. While I am a huge proponent of strength training for bodybuilders, it will be difficult to achieve goals in either discipline while training for the other.

i would have to say successful powerlifter, while bodybuilding is something i'd really like to do, i notice that i get more joy out of lifting and seeing how much i can lift so i'd have to say powerlifter.

Well then pursue that goal. Pure bodybuilding training will not be productive towards a high total. While it has its benifit, your goal will be to move as much as possible, not develop mass and symmetry.
