I'm going to take advantage of the fact that I have a fridge at work, and buy a box of cereal and some skim milk to keep at work so I have something to eat on the days like today where I forgot to bring anything due to home issues right before leaving.
That said, what is a good dry cereal to buy, that has some value as far as nutrition is concerned, but doesn't taste like carboard?? I tried the low carb special K a few weeks ago....umm when you have to put ff hazelnut creamer on a bowl of cereal just to get it down...thats not so good. Any ideas would be appreciated!! |

Kashi GoLean cereal is great because it has added protien in it. The GoLean Crunch is sweet, kind of like eating granola bars. One serving has 190cal 3F/36C/9P. The regual GoLean cereal has less calories and less fat and carbs, but isn't as tastey as the crunch. it is more expensive than regular cereal and our grocery store carries it in the organic/health foods section. Oatmeal is also a great option.

I would deffinately take oatmeal, but don't have any way to heat/cook it. I have a stove, but no utensils, and no microwave, so cold cereal will work best.
I've never tried the Kashi cereals, but I've heard they keep you filled up pretty well. As long as they don't taste like that Low Carb Special K stuff I'm sure I can manage. |

Oatmeal... gross... crazy Northern people... grits are better...
But anyway, going along w/ what fly was talking about, most of the cereals in the Natures/Organics dept are a good choice. Just watch the label as some of that organic stuff can have more fat/calories than the regular stuff. |

Kashi cereal is good, I have it every other morning. Shredded Wheat is also good and nutrition is close to that of oatmeal.

As far as oatmeal goes, at work I sometimes just boil a kettle and put the oatmeal in a mug with the hot water and let it sit until it's done. I even add vanilla protien powder sometimes for a meal if I end up working late. It's my emergency meal. Make sure you use quick oats, there just cut smaller so cook quicker.

I second what fly recommended - Kashi GoLean and GoLean Crunch.
Go here for GoLean nutrition facts and more info: http://www.kashi.com/golean_cereal.aspx?SID=1&Category_ID=68& |

Well, I wound up getting Shredded Wheat n Bran. I know I like the taste, and it was on sale for 2 bucks. The Kashi was almost 5 bucks for a smaller box.
I'm eating a bowl right now for breakfast at work. It's kinda nice. :) |

Yeah, what do you think of the Cracklin Oat Bran cereal? I remember I used to love it as a kid, but my mom would let me have it because it was "Grandma's cereal" and only for old people.

Personally I love Vector mixed with Bran Flakes or Raisin Bran (I store them mixed in an empty Protein Pwd tub)

Whats Vector??
I looked up the Cracklin Oat Bran nutrition info online, and the fat content is WAY to high to even think about eating it as a cereal. |

Kelloggs All Bran Extra fiber cereal. I'm practically addicted to the stuff now. It has about 12 grams of fiber per serving. Good stuff. It's kinda like Fiber 1 cereal.

Cristal I remember the Crackin Oat bran!! god that takes me back quite a few years..surprised they still make the stuff.God I have come along way since my Cocoa Puff days
Vector is a newer cereal( in Canada only perhaps?) that is suppose to contain lots of nutrients, proteins, but alas it also contains too much sugar and not enough fiber. I like the All Bran too,but just cant stomach eating just that,so sometimes I like to sprinkle it on other cereals to boost my fiber or make muffins out of it. I swear by large flake oats or scottish(steel cut) oats..plus I have a bit of Red River cereal(6 Grams of Fiber per 1/4 Cup)mixed in for extra fiber... I just dont believe that you need to start your day with any cereal that contains sugar when there are sugar free alternatives |
