My name is Mike, I'm 25, and have been struggling with love handles most of my life. I'm about 6ft 2" tall and currently weigh 205. Although I'm not very heavy for my height (I don't think), I want to teach myself to eat right, and exercise more (and correctly). I very tied down as far as time goes, since I work from 6am until 230pm, and usually have school after that until late at night.

Since I do IT work and Im always at a desk, how can I get around the "home cooked" healthy meals and still get all the vitamins, nutrients, etc... that my body needs?

I ordered some Optimum 100% Whey Protein powder yesterday, and one of each of their protein bars, to try out. I just need some insight on what I need to be eating while at work, how often, etc. I'm also starging to take Hydroxycut.

Yesterday, I did not have breakfast. For lunch, I had a protein bar. Dinner consisted of some baked chicken, broccoli with cheese and some whole grain brown rice. I don't think i'm eating enough, which is why I may not be losing weight. So far this morning, I've eaten a whole plum, and drink water all day everyday.

Thanks in advance!

It's best to eat 5-8 smaller meals/snacks throughout the day....breakfast should be one of your biggest meals of the day...protein bar is fine as a snack in between breakfast and lunch but it's not a lunch...you need something more for lunch...it would be best if you could eat breakfast, lunch, dinner, and maybe have 2-3 snacks in between......keep in mind that meals don't need to be huge....your body uses calories more efficiently when you eat less but more frequently...and you tend to put on less fat...

hit the gym to see better results...if short on time...do 30-45 minutes of total body freeweight lifting focusing on big lifts 3 times a week...and you'll see good results...

With breakfast being the biggest meal of the day, what should I eat since I do not have much time? I wake up at 430am and leave the house by 515am to get to work on time. Do I need to wake up earlier and makes eggs or something with some wheat toast? If it's supposed to be the largest meal, what else should I eat then? Is there a site somewhere that has a easy meal plan such as:

Breakfast 4AM: eggs, toast, fruit, etc.
Snack 7AM: some type of snack (clueless what i should eat)
Snack 10AM: yet another snack.. protein bar?
Lunch 1230PM: turkey sandwich or something?
Snack 3PM: another snack
Dinner 6PM: fish, chicken, etc..?

I realize I need to eat more frequently, and less per setting. It's just figuring out WHAT to eat is the hard part. I can't go home and cook an exceptional meal everytime I need to eat. I'm sure I'm not alone either. Several new users probably have the same problems. :(

Thanks for the quick reply.

Hi txmikem and welcome to FT! Check out the "The comeback thread" in the Bodybuilding & Fitness competitions - Exercise & Diet category. That will give you a better idea of what kind of meals to eat:)

I'm a novice when it comes to this stuff. I recently started eating more meals throughout the day, and less per serving. I also purchased a mountain bike so I can get in some fitness after work throughout the week.
