Is it safe to drink egg whites raw? It saves time to just drink them rather than cook them, and I buy them in a carton where they've already been seperated and pasteurized. yet, i don't know if I can get somesort of poisoning or tape worm from the bacteria that still exists. Is it safe to drink raw?

Yeah, they are ultra pastuerized. No problems.

Gives you a nice shiny coat too!
Where are you getting them already seperated? Am I just overlooking them at the store?

You can buy egg whites in cartons and they are usually right next to the eggs. Sometimes "egg beaters" are in the frozen section, but I'm not sure if they are just egg whites. I prefer to buy the egg substitute that taste a little more like whole eggs and have red and green peppers already added to them (they are still made from egg whites) Makes for an easy omelet.

It is a B deficiency that can develope. The eggwhites in the carton are pastureized. If you worry, just take a b vitamin with them.

ogono - I may be wrong but I think most of us use the egg whites to cook with. I did the math a long time ago and I can get a quart of egg whites for under $3 and don't have to mess with gettingt rid of the yolks before they run me out of my home. I live alone and travel a lot so just forgetting once makes it stick in your sensory memory. :)

Man, I have GOT to start paying more attention at the store. I'm still seperating them like a sap.

Calories ogono, that's why. People eat egg whites because in an eggwhite you get 1/2 the protein of the egg for less than 20 calories. In a whole egg, you may get the other 1/2 of the protein but an additional 50 calories as well.
Whole eggs are around 70 calories total and 6g protein and the whites are like I said, less than 20 calories and 3g protein.
The people you see talking about eating eggwhites are watching their weight or trying to lose, the people you see eating whole eggs are trying to gain typically. Make more sense now?
