Welcome to FT! Be sure to fill out your profile (especially your goals) so we can more readily answer some of your questions.
Lipids, or fatty acids, are needed for MANY things in your body to function correctly. Here's a few:
Fat-soluable vitamins - you need fat so they can be absorbed properly (ex.: vitamins A, D, E, K)
Hormone production - without fats, you cannot produce the hormones needed for your body to properly grow and repair
Energy - carbs are not your body's only energy source; fats are a more efficient source of fuel. Fats will produce two times as much energy per molecule as carbohydrates.
Hope that helps a bit......

But fat is not just fat....... As jbennet explains, fat is one of the important macro nutritions that we need to survive.
BUT try to avoid saturated fat.
What you need is mono and poly saturated fat as the Omega 3 and Omega 6 contain.
It's easy to eat this; fish oil, nuts, olives, avocado.....
Bon appetit!

I don't care for alot of the fatty foods so I supplement with flaxoil capsules, and other omega/EFA capsules.

I would recommend supplementing with Flax oil or EFA oil blends. If you can get straight oil, in my opinion, it is much better as you can take less oil than you would have to take pills. You can mix the oil into your protein shakes, salad dressing, warm oatmeal (not hot as this destroys the oil), or you can shoot it with an OJ chaser.
