Hi everyone... don't really post too much more of an observer but I have a question. I'm 16 years old, 5'9, roughy 135 lbs now. When I first started lifting about 3 months ago I was 125 so I gained 10 lbs. I can squat 300lbs on the smith machine 8 times without too much stress and already maxed out on the bench press machin 200lbs. I don't really have a lifting partner so I don't do much free weights as far as core lifts are concerned, but I'm intaking 4500 clean calories a day as well as creatine and whey protein. To tell the honest truth I don't see much of a difference in my size and neither does anyone else. Am I doing anything wrong? I'm seeing huge gains as far as lifts are concerned but my size is just going no where.

First off, get away from those useless smith machines and start using free weights through a full range of motion, even if it means dropping (consisderably), the amount of weight that you are using. Do your squats and bench presses in a power cage for safety. Also find or develop a quality spotter.

Whenever I here someone say that the do this or that much on whatever machine, it has no meaning whatsoever. What is meaningful, is how much weight can be lifted with free weights while executing proper form during these exercises.

Whenever I see a smith machine in a gym, I get this incredibly powerful urge to grab my sawzall, cut the silly thing into many pieces have the scrap metal hauled away to
the local yard.

I guess you're stressing the CLEAN part as 4500 was very easy for me to do when I was 16, I use to eat one 16" all meat pizza for dinner at that age. I did have some extra fat(I now have more fat :( ) but was 6' and 195 then. 2500 - 3000 clean calories is very hard now. Get tired of eating veggies all the time and meat is just too expensive to eat all day.

I get more than that, and eat relatively clean. Although you might mean that you doubt he is getting that much and still not growing, which would make sense.

A 300lb squat on a smith machine is not really a 300lb squat. In fact, after taking into account bar weight and stabilization and depth, I would compare it to a 170lb olympic squat, or a 200lb powerlifting squat past parallel.

Also, I agree about the sawsall.
